Jaw surgery and oral sex

Hey everyone,
I'm going through a bit of an issue in my sex life. I'm just too shy or embarrassed to mention this to any of my friends or family so decided to try here.
I had double jaw surgery to improve an overbite and an open bite at the beginning of May 2015. I am healing well and able to eat most things though there are still minor difficulties here and there. I noticed that I am unable to open my mouth as wide as prior to surgery... I can just barely fit three fingers (sideways and on top of each other) between my teeth if I open as wide as I can.
This has made it very difficult to perform oral sex on my boyfriend. I have tried a couple of times but feel as though I can't open wide enough and am scared to scrape him with my teeth. I have told him that it is difficult for me and that I don't want to do it and be completely bad at it because of this and am frankly too embarrassed to try most of the time in case any of the mentioned issues do arise.
He has hinted at wanting oral sex a few times and while he hasn't pressured me at all, it does come up and is the elephant in the room. He is very generous in bed and I would really like to do this more often but feel discouraged.
Has anyone gone through this same issue due to jaw surgery or something else? Any advice/suggestions for me and my issue?

I have not had surgery myself but my GF had TMJ surgery and had the same issue. She tried and once in a while would scrape and apologize but it really was not a big deal. What kind of douche bag is going to be upset because his GF scrapes sometimes when giving oral after she had surgey?!?! God bless your sweet heart (and mouth) for still being willing to try! Honestly, her stopping and apologizing profusely bothered me more than the scraping. BJs are like pizza. Some are better than others but there really is no such thing as a bad one!

As far as technical assistance if concerned, my GF found that if she stayed down on it a bit farther, it reduced the chance of scraping the rim. That's the only time it's really unpleasant. And I was still able to get plenty of good friction.

If that still doesn't make him happy, let him do an@l instead. jk

@bighands - Did you find that it improved over time with just doing it more and more? Or was the scraping something that continued to happen over time? I'm thinking maybe if I just "practise" it some more, I'll adjust...

Also - what did you mean by staying down on it a bit farther? Did you mean taking more of it in (deeper)?

Yes, it did get better over time.

Also, yes down further = deeper. In other words, teeth past the rim.

And I'm sure your BF won't mind letting you practice. If he does, let me know! LOL.

A full BJ may not be in the works for you two. I have been blessed with a tiny mouth inside. While I was still with my ex H, he knew that the likelihood of getting bitten or scraped was pretty good. So he would just rather not risk it, plus it was not exactly comfortable for me either.

But there are so many more gifts a tongue can provide that does not have to be full on oral sex. Lots of licking and caressing, and kissing of that area and such can be quite stimulating as well. Maybe try some of those kind of things instead. Find a new favorite pastime.

I have a similar problem in that my mouth is tiny and I can't open very wide. If I try to go down on a guy my teeth wind up scraping depending on how big he is. My first bf? Forget it. He was far far too big. My second was smaller but I found that because he was circumcised, he didn't taste all too well, so I didn't do it to him often. I guess maybe I should just stick to tongue work, sucking and using my hands on the next guy.
