i had a sleep issues since highschool, weird i think. i dont know if this is out of topic but please do ignore this if its not related here. and i dont know how to explain this in english so i hope you understand.
my sleep often comes with a nightmare, you know ghost / death / everything in to that. everytime i had a nightmare i will constantly freeze, like i cant move my body at all, hard to breath, hard to open my eyes, and then i will be like in the middle of my self consciousness, between awake & sleep. say a prayer is the only thing i can think of when it happens. after a few seconds i will be fully awake after pushing so hard to move my body / open my eyes. not only that, i often hear something inside my ears (not inside the room) during the "freeze" seconds, like a voice, someone voice, whispering, or laughing, and moreover sometimes i can feel something is touching me or something is on my bed, the bed moves. in a traditional way, people say its something more like a possessed kind of thing. they say if we dont push ourselves to wake up, we will never wake up again, do you believe that? but some other would say in medical terms, the freeze thing is only because im too tired that day. but why does it only came when i had a nightmare? it even happened when i didnt do anything at all the whole day. its annoying when it happens almost every night, just sometimes it happens when i take a nap. my sleep always interrupted. its been like 8 years and it still happens. i know people who's having the same experience but its a rare situation for them. to me, its too much. does anybody know anything about this? what is exactly happen during my freeze seconds? what caused it? and does it connected mentally? thanks |

It sounds like it might be PTSD related. My brain often works out things in my sleep, especially if it's something I can't deal with in my waking hours. Do you have a therapist that might help you figure out what's going on? It does not sound medical related to me, but a trip to the medical Dr. to rule out that side of things might be a good first step.

Dear, dear perfectsilence, No, no, you are not possessed. You are probably having something called sleep terrors, in which you are part awake [can maybe see the room around you, for example] and part asleep [the voice whispering in your ear; something touching you; the bed moving - these parts are the dream portion] and you cannot move - you describe this as freezing. You are right on in describing this as the middle of your subconscious, half asleep and half awake. This tends to happen as we are transitioning from waking state to sleep or from sleep to waking. It often starts with a nightmare. You are right that pushing yourself to move is the best way to wake up, but don't worry, you'll wake up eventually no matter what you do. Again, you are NOT possessed. This is a common experience, but doesn't happen as frequently in most people. If you have a therapist, or someone you can talk to about this - or even write about it repeatedly, the night terrors should decrease. The more you expose these fears to the light of day, the less they seem to need to manifest at night. Also, do you have medical or neurological conditions, such as perhaps seizures, or medications, which might contribute to the frequency of this phenomena? Consider all These things, but do not fear! billieJ

I agree with the possibility of PTSD. I go thru similar episodes when I sleep. Not unusual, just a drag.

Sleep terrors, yeah i think it is. Sometimes i think its because im too paranoid since the first freeze experience, cause it feels so real, the whisper and everything. so the terror kept coming almost every night. last night i just had it again. I started to wondering if this is just a hallucinations? and yeah its terrorizing me in sleep. |
