I wish I could give you some of mine as I sleep like a dead man. Not very much to offer on the subject.

May be a little walk and some food (even a glass of milk will do) before going to bed may help you. Also figure out your bio clock, sometimes you cannot sleep with the times usually set in the families like my father saying its 10, so everyone to bed. May be your sleep timings and lengths vary from the others around you, just figure it out and make adjustments accordingly.

Or is there something else, like some tension or problem that might be bugging you...

Hey crystalrose, I've only just started sleeping properly again, 2 things that have helped me the most have been yoga, when I can't sleep I get up and do yoga. It doesn't always put me back to sleep but the next day I don't feel so bad. The other thing has been herbal teas, and I have tried heaps of alternative/eastern medicine which never helped me. And loads of herbal sleeping pills etc...

I have no idea why these work but Sleepytime tea and Tension Tamer from Celestial Seasonings are amazing for me. Once again not a 100% cure but helpful.

Zilchhour's suggestion works for me (sometimes) too.

My answer is melatonin by the handful.
It can be bought over the counter 3 and 5 mg
It's only a temp solution, but it knocks you out good if you take enough.
Body builds up a tolerance, so it is just temporary.
