I seem to only be having nightmares or bad dreams that leave me feeling disturbed after I wake up.

Is there anyway that I can do something so I have happy or positive dreams?

Hi Zen - Our brain never stops. It continues to take all our information collected in current and pass and tries to make a clear picture of all the data has been working on, or EVERYTHING you've been doing durning the day, and past un-resolved issues.
It tries to make sence of it all but instead jumbles it all together.

I go through the same, almost nightly. My dreams always involve family and I am really rattled the next day, especially when the dreams are vivid and I remember them.

I just don't know how to stop them.

I didn't mean to make light of your dreams. They take a long time to dissappate. I found over the years that in my dreams I started confronting those had hurt me.......... it took years to get to that point...
It was really wild though.....
Being 49 and going much therapy - I have tremendous step just through my dream alone.
My old therapist said we can control our dreams.
I guess that might be so - maybe that's why I was making baby steps in each trip to end being the victim

My therapist told me that approximately two thirds of dreams are negative. I have very disturbing dreams that are sometimes accompanied by physical terrors as well. I also hear voices when awake and found that I was also talking to those voices in my dreams sort of like in Rosemary’s Baby when she is overhearing conversations and translating them into her dreamstate. There was the imagery of the dream and then the dialogue. The dialogue meant one thing with the imagery and could mean something else when looked at alone.

So I started to think about what the voices were saying and pulled that apart from the dream imagery and worked with that dialogue. Because I have taken an active role in working with my dreams in the waking state I now recognize when I am dreaming and can guide the dream a bit. I don’t have full control but I do have some. I can continue the dream and guide it to a less disturbing place or even pull myself out of it if need be. This takes practice but absolutely can be done.

Also, some medications can cause seriously disturbing nightmares. I don’t know if you are taking prescribed meds but it may be a side effect.

I wish you and all the other dreamers out there peace.
Thanks for this!
