I got my cpap machine today and gonna use it the first night tonight, kinda scared. Got very brief results, but getting full sleep test results on thursday. From what i know i stop breathing for 11-33 seconds 17 times an hr. They said i never make it to REM sleep. Only slept 230.00 mins total on my sleep test.

the first night was a baseline to see if i had it, the next week i slept with the mask. I did sleep much better with the mask, only wokeup 1 time, not like every hour. my mask covers my nose and mouths since i cant breath right through my nose. I was not given any options, but from what i read online, cpap is the first option for people, as others are more drastic, i think. I did it for 2 nights so far and feel better more awake, better memory, happier, but have been feeling out of breath and some chest pain like my heart is working to hard? Maybe because at night it was working way to hard and now with the mask help at night it gets so relaxed when i do daytime stuff, it acts like it is hard? Just a thought, will tell my doc about it anyway. keep me updated about yourself, ok? |

I love my CPAP. I am more rested with it. It took some adjustment though. Mine was set to turn off if it didn't detect breathing after thirty seconds or something like that. Sometimes I would mouth breathe and since the mask is on my nose it wouldn't detect it and I would wake up in the middle of the night and it would be off. I called the resp therapist and she showed me how to reprogram it so it would not auto shut off. Now the only time it shuts off when I am sleeping is when my cat walks across it and her foot presses the on/off button.

ariesmars, I'm glad you are doing well so far. Thanks for the good words about CPAP, Yoda. I am scared of it, for some reason. I have kitties too--were they scared of your machine?
I got my referral to the sleep medicine center and tomorrow is my evaluation appointment. I am assuming they will recommend a sleep study. I hope that can be scheduled soon.

I need to have a sleep study done. I wake myself up gasping for breath often, and I have terrible chronic fatigue and daytime sleepiness.

I had my appointment with the sleep doctor. He does think I may have sleep apnea so he scheduled me for an overnight sleep study. He said my soft palate looks like it would cause the apnea. Plus, my tonsils are still there and he said my uvula (the thing that hangs down in the back of the throat) is quite large. So all this tissue plugs up my throat when I go to sleep. Also, my father has sleep apnea and he says it runs in families.
