Not sure if anyone can relate - but just hope I'm not alone

I used to suffer from hypersomnia, and while I don't spend nearly my entire weekend sleeping, I still feel I sleep too much.
On average I sleep 10PM - 6:30AM, and on weekends, I'll only wake up at around 9AM

I sometimes still feel so tired though - I know I go through a lot of dreams, but very rarely remember them. Is this too much REM sleep that isn't allowing my brain to rest?
I take zopiclone to sleep better, which I now think I'm addicted too, as I think you're only meant to use it for a max of 14 days non-stop, and if I don't take it, I'll wake up recurringly in the middle of the night.

Hi Sugahorse! I have had multiple sleep troubles-sometimes sleeping way too little, sometimes way too much. I also often have vivid and violent dreams which I feel leave me exhausted.
It doesn't look to me that you sleep waaay more than necessary, most adults need about 7 to 9 hours to feel rested. However, if you are sleeping that long and still feeling tired, then it is possible you are not getting restful sleep. On weekends, if sleeping that long is bothering you or interfering with your activities, then of course you are right to address it!
I am not familiar with that particular medication, but if you feel it has become addictive, it may be producing other side effects as well, which could be affecting your sleep cycles. Would it be possible to talk to your doc about weaning yourself off it? Or, if you need meds to sleep, transitioning you to a different medication?
Sometimes I find it helps to motivate myself to get up when I should if I can do something nice as soon as I wake. Like play ball with my dogs, or have something really good for breakfast, just some little thing that helps make getting out of bed more pleasant.

Hi there.

I used to sleep like a log, not tabs. Then I would usually just take a tab when I was anxious and couldn't sleep. After a while of anxious nights i.e. needing to take sleep tabs, I thought I'd be fine not take one. It was only then that I realised how much I actually relied on them.

I don't believe i need to be on sleep medication for the balance of my life! I'm trying at the moment to cope with only half a tablet.
I am having some dreams, mostly going back to flashes of a past relationship that was toxic and hurt me badly. This causes me to wake up with severe anxiety too

Hey Sugahorse.

I am the exact same. I am on an anti-depressant though. But have had sleep issues since I was a kid. I am getting loads of sleep but still feeling really tired and yawning ALL the time and they are BIG yawns too not the wee normal ones. I was on sleeping tablets too but they did nothing for me btw- I was sleeping 2 hours a night and that was it. I am having the odd days when I only get 2-3 hours sleep a night but other nights where I am getting 8-13 hours and still feeling exhausted. When I am shattered and I go to bed early ie 9pm I am WIDE AWAKE till the wee hours of the morning. I am in a vicious circle. So I am doubtful I can help you!!! Sorry. Hope you find out the cause of your lack of restfulness

I experience the same thing. I get sufficient sleep (when I can actually sleep that is) but because of the dreaming, wake up feeling exhausted. I just long to be able to sleep, stay asleep and not dream!

Maybe the mood stabilizer is having an effect on your sleep. I know some of them like seroquel or Geodon, can make you very sleepy. I have to take a vitamin B supplement in order to stay awake in the morning after I take my Geodon. Maybe try taking a vitamin B complex. It works well.
