Has anyone hallucinated visually right after waking up? I woke up from a dream and saw something from my dream, this happened more than once. The first time it lasted a minute and I tried to focus my vision because I thought, no way am I seeing that, but it was still there so I touched it and it was not there. The second time I woke up and saw the movement that was in my dream, I was in a house of someone else who was not home and I should not be there, I heard someone was there so I was trying to leave and could not, so I woke, I opened my eyes and saw the door knob from the dream and it was spinning in the air in front of my eyes, but it faded quickly. The first time was a few months ago…this is very weird. Another difference in my dreams is that beginning about a year ago I started to dream lucidly at times. Are these connected?

Hi. Yes this has happened to me. It can be scary and disorienting. But now that its happened a few times I know what it is. I tend to see bugs or mice. eek But it goes away in a few seconds. It is amazing, they look so real. The mind is incredible. Do you have a gp, or a therapist or pdoc that you see now? You should tell them about this if it is happening frequently. It can be very jarring. Maybe your doc might be able to recommend a sleep doctor.

Hi,
It is not hallucination but part of the dream. You actually dreamt that you woke up, however the waking element is the "Idea" that you're hallucinating. Do you take any medication?

Well I get what you mean Gojamadar, but I was actually awake. I did not dream that I woke up. I did actually wake up. But my brain was still asleep and I was still dreaming in a sense, so I was seeing what was in my dream. The second time made sense because it was like this fading out thing. But the first time was really weird for me because it stayed for a bit. I've read a little about this and how the brain is not fully awake yet, complicated reading about the brain and difficult to explain. It sounds like it is not that common though. I so have migraines with visual disturbances so there may be a connection. I'm going to ask my neurologist.

These hallucinations are not abnormal. There is a technical name for it, I forget what it is. It is pretty common as the person is waking, but can also happen as the person is drifting off to sleep. It happens in the state where you are not fully awake, nor are you fully asleep.
