I am so tired. My body needs rest. Yet I cannot sleep I lay in bed and close my eyes but I don't fall asleep. I get up and move around just doing nothing. I try again to sleep and cannot. I have talked to my pdoc about trying something. He has given me trazodone 50mg to take. I took it yet I am still not falling asleep. I'm not sure if uping the dose will help and am nervous to do so as it is also used as an intidepressant and all of the meds for antidepressants I've been on so far make me a bit suicidal so I avoid them. But they say with the trazodone in low doses it is more for sleep than depression. Before the trazodone I was using my antianxiety meds which helped but then I didn't have enough for when I really needed them. Not to mention the tolerance I could build up. I've tried herbal teas seraquil risperdol(sp?) Lexapro laying and doing the tensing of muscles from toes to head. I don't know what else to try. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi,
Try counting sheep! It may sound daft but it is a form of yoga. Alternatively you could start with thinking of nothing. Block out any thoughts - negative or positive- from your mind. Yet another alternative is to do something really, really boring! However your problem is probably caused by a withdrawal syndrom from something you used to take.

I agree with Goja, I was thinking a withdrawal type symptom too. Maybe? And the meditaion stuff does help...if you can clear your mind, play some ocean sounds with birds chirping, waterfalls, etc when trying to clear your mind...it is very helpful. There is also a scent machine you can get in stores...aroma therapy...it has little crystals that sit in the machine and it gives of fragrance that soothes and relaxes. They are inexpensive and very effective.
Lol, my husband made me stop playing the CD of the ocean and sea gulls during the week, lol, he sleeps through the alram becasue I put it on repeat....he is so funny.
I hope you find some help here somewhere and get some good restful sleep.

Try hypnosis. There are tons of free audio files to be found online. Victoria Gallagher is good. Dr. Laura De Giorgio is also good.
