Trazadone has been very effective in relieving my insomnia and I've been using it for years. As I recall, I have always been a lucid dreamer, but over a period of time these dreams have morphed into stressful nightmares which are like mini-series. I curse, cry and wimper, shout, moan, conduct converations, etc., according to my spouse. (These things wake him up). I often wake up in a sweat with my heart pounding due to some nightmare scenario.

I've titrated my Trazadone from 400 mgs. HS to 300 mgs. I tried 200 mgs. but I was waking up 3 hours after taking it. I need to get my sleep because I'm bipolar. Lunesta and Ambien didn't do anything for me.

I've never taken melatonin. Can anybody comment on their experience with it? Maybe I can begin using that and eventually get off the Trazadone? I'll run it all by my P-doc before I do anything but I'm seeking some feedback. Thanks in advance for any advice.

My husband takes Trazadone and he has the exact same problem. It's the only thing that puts him to sleep though, so he's just suffering thru the nightmares. He even wakes up CRYING, and this is a man that has never cried in front of me before that particular dream. They can be pretty intense, realisitic, vivid, and disturbing. Let me know if your doc puts you on something different.
