So, where I live doesn't actually have tornadoes, but the other day I had a dream about a tornado. I was outside with friends and family, we were playing games, then we saw plants rise into the air. Next the plants dropped down to the ground and we heard a loud roaring noise. We look around the other side of the building we were near and see this giant tornado nearby. We run into a nearby home and ask if we can hide in there, they said we could. We kept hearing the roar of the tornado while we searched the house for a place to hide.

What do you think a dream like that might mean? Again, where I live we don't actually have tornadoes, the worst we'd have is a dust storm.

I have tornado dreams at least 2-3 times a WEEK. It is a recurring dream with different variations. Here is what dreammoods.com says about it:

Quote:
Tornados
To see a tornado in your dream suggests that you are experiencing some extreme emotional outbursts and temper tantrums. Is there a situation or relationship in your life that may be potentially destructive?

To dream that you are in a tornado means that you are feeling overwhelmed and out of control. Your plans will be filled with much complications and you will be met with a series of disappointments.
To see several tornadoes in your dream represent people around you who are prone to violent outbursts and shifting mood swings. It may also symbolize a volatile situation or relationship.
For me, I know it means my feelings seem out of control, or a situation that I am not in control over. To see multiple tornadoes means there are people who are out of control and maybe want to hurt you. When I've seen multiple ones, I think it is symbolic of my parents being abusive when I was younger.

Yeah, maybe things just seem to be getting out of control for me, recently had a lot of disagreements with a "friend" and we're not talking anymore.

I've also been experiencing some overwhelming stress and tiredness that seems like it may be effecting my behavior towards people.

So maybe that's why I dreamed about a tornado? Wonder why two of my friends and my mom, as well as my friends parents, were in the dream though, seems a little strange, but maybe it has some significance?

Did you survive the tornado? It may be your mind telling you that you can handle the stress you are dealing with.

You mean the tornado in the dream? Well, I woke up while the tornado was still going on in the dream LOL. Maybe it was a manifestation of stress I"m facing in life? try to survive it and being able to handle it like you said.

A bit of irony btw, last night we had a tornado warning at the town I'm in, I'm not used to stuff like that because where I'm from doesn't have threat of tornados (and where the dream took place was at the place where I'm from). I will say, I freaked out, tornadoes scare me, if that helps any.

tornadoes can also mean that you are going through a trial or tribulation in your life. the details of the storm can tell you what is happening in the trail. plants can represent things that you put an effort into and now it has been destroyed by the storm.

Holy joe...tornado dreams are popular! Me too. I like 'em. Give me the rush i'm not feeling much anymore. Outrunning or driving from tornadoes popping up everywhere is pretty mad in a dream. We have wee baby ones up here and very rare compared to south of the border. The ones I envision are the big ones. My God, in real life that must be a monstrous thing.

Because a tornado is created of swirling wind/air, it is a symbol of consciousness and refers to powerful mental activity. The circling, spirally winds of the tornado reflect the idea of thoughts which are going round and round, going over and over an issue, often given power by anger which leads to carving out a physical path or course of action which is destructive rather than constructive. Note the strip of chaos ad destruction remaining after a tornado has passed by. The tornado reflects a way of thinking which is a danger to the dreamer and anyone else in their vicinity.

The dream suggests a situation in which you see yourself functioning realistically. (outside) When thinking this way you seem to be emotionally supported by psychological aspects of yourself that would appear to work to your benefit and for your protection. (the friends and parents with you) But, you could be playing games with yourself. (we were playing games)

The scene shows logical ideas arising or coming up in your mind (plants rise into the air). Yet when doing so, it would seem implied that they are becoming disconnected from the ground, that is, disconnected from the rational grounds of reasoning on which they have developed. By rising into the air, it seems implied that in your mind, your logical ideas are being relegated to the realm of fantasy – somewhat like balloons. When seen as only but fantasies, lacking in reality, the ideas are then dropped as if you needed to “come back to earth” or reality with the ideas.

At this point you should hear or perceive an indication of dangerous mental activity or thinking coming upon you. (the roar of a tornado)[It is possible that when your ideas – which do come of a sound base (ground)- seem like wishful thinking disconnected from reality, the frustration and anger felt could lead to destructive courses of action. Note the “roar” of the tornado is suggestive of “anger”.]

You may need to look around or see past a situation or way of thinking that has been built up to seem important (look around the other side of the building)in order to see and believe in the existence of the tornado-like way of thinking in your own mind. There is someone whose mental attitude or way of thinking seems to offer protection against your anger powered thinking. (a nearby home in which to hide) Yet here, there is an implication that you might question the protection that this person’s way of thinking has to offer you. (ask if we can hide in there) Keeping hearing the roar can imply that the anger continues and that this individual’s own state of mind does not readily provide you with a safe haven against your own anger powered thinking. (searched for a place to hide).

The real life tornado warning a few days later could be regarded as a reality factor regarding a tornado-like way of thinking and the warning about it that you should be hearing. Your own comment to the effect that the tornado warning came in the town you are now in and not from the place where you are from seems quite significant. It can suggest that hearing the warning about this type of thinking is not something you would associate with where you are from – in terms of background, training, heredity etc. - but could be associated with where you are now at – in terms of your own personal development.

i have had reoccuring tornado dreams forever. i take them as signs that i am overwhelmed but also of how well i am coping depending on how well i respond to the crisis in my dreams. sometimes i am very scared and run and hide, but if i have a place to hide that is good. it means i feel i have resources. if there is no place to go then i am feeling helpless, hopeless. sometimes i am an emergency worker, guiding others to safety, in control. boarding up windows against to storm, totally prepared. thats a good sign that i have coping skills to deal with whatever crisis that is facing me. the other dream that reoccurs is tsunamis. they have a similar theme. i hate it when i get them both together.
