I had quite an odd dream. Well, not so much the dream that confused me, but more so how I woke up.
All I remember is towards the end of my dream something was bitting my shoulder/neck area. I felt the pain and tried to pull off whatever it was that was bitting me. I kept putting all my force into taking it off me, the pain felt real and the actual anxiety and force was surreal as well. After a good 30 seconds of this I felt as I couldn't take it anymore and woke up instantly, vividly remember just that last part... (sorry if this was scattered a bit, just trying to recollect) Is this normal? Never had a dream where I felt so much pain or put so much effort to a point where I immediately woke up. |

Yes, I've had dreams where I'm doing something that takes so much effort that it wakes me up. I can't remember offhand a dream where I felt a lot of pain, but the effort part really rings a bell. I probably have dreams like this once or twice a year. Sometimes they're nightmares and very scary, other times I'm just working really hard at something. But yeah, I think the effort wakes me up.

Usually we associate being bitten with an animal yet here you never see what is doing the biting. This can suggest that you have some idea that may be working through your own instinctive emotional nature which is definitely not working in your favour (as you get bitten). This idea is giving you great emotional pain (represented by pain upon the body)
As your shoulder and neck are the areas being attacked, it implies that some idea is causing you much emotional pain by making you feel at risk and where some burden or responsibility is involved. You appear to be making a superhuman effort to rid yourself of the idea causing such great emotional pain. (force was surreal) When you find yourself unable to take it anymore, it seems to be time to wake up, that is, time to come to a greater state of awareness. By waking up immediately, it becomes obvious that all the emotional pain being experienced was actually experienced “in a dream”, that is, while you were conscious only at a subconscious level and living in a world of fantasy and overly emotional and imaginative thinking. Freedom from the pain is achieved by acquiring more awareness, more knowledge and understanding about those situations where you might feel at risk or carrying a burden or responsibility. |
