I have anxiety & often have these horrible realistic nightmares. Last week I had this really scary one that has been haunting me. Usually when I have a nightmare it is about demons or ghost ( paranormal stuff :/). Of course, this one was the same.

I rarely sleep, but i fell asleep at 3am. I live in Canton, Ohio, which is a pretty bad area. In my dream i was under a highway bridge in downtown canton. It was really dark out. The air was musty. It was wet And hard to breath. I was looking around the streets & i knew exactly where i was. My Grandma didn't live too far , but i was afraid to leave where I was standing and head to my Grandma's in fear that i might get mugged. Finally, i convinced myself to go to Grandma's to use her phone to call my parents. There were two different roads, that I am familiar with, that I could have ran down, but I couldn't decide which to take. Suddenly, i was in a dark room. I didn't see any of the room except a window white see-through curtains that were blowing slowly in the breeze. A street light... Or maybe the moon?... was shinning in the window, casting my bodies shadow on the bed. I looked down and saw my body ( so i was still first person... sometimes it's like a movie..). I couldn't feel my hands or feet. My neck got this strange feeling in it, like it was getting light. Then my arms and legs started raising off the bed. i knew i was being.. well..possessed?.. so i tried to scream. I was trying to say "leave me alone", but i was choking. That's when I woke up at exactly 3:55 am.

I was so scared when I woke up. i was convinced i was being haunted. Usually when i wake up from a nightmares I have a panic attack, but I didn't ( thank god ). I grabbed the phone & sat outside while i called my good friend, Trevor. Now I'm paranoid about sleeping near windows :/.. I know that's SO stupid, but I'm afraid it was like a vision.

I really wish i could sleep like a normal person again, and i also wish that when i do sleep.. i wouldn't have nightmares.

Do you have any suggestions to help this? What do you think my dream could mean??

What you described was not possession at all. Typically, this happens in the scene of the actual bedroom, when it's known as an out of body experience. The fact that you were still in dream mode simply tells me your brain doesn't switch out of dream mode well. You were feeling the same sensation, but since you were still dreaming you didn't have the "seeing myself laying in my bedroom" experience everyone else does. The choking is actually something called sleep paralysis. Don't worry, it's not as severe as it sounds. It's simply when your mind gets lucid to the fact that you're dreaming, but your body is stuck between dreaming and waking so it can't move. This is typically where people get the sensation that something "unseen" is holding them down. No, it's just your body refusing to let go of the dream and getting itself stuck.

Hope this helps!

Omg thank you SO MUCH. This REALLY helped and made so much sense! You are correct my body does have a hard time coming out of dream mode :/. Sometime I have woken up and thought I was someone else . Ever since my anxiety got worse my dreams have been like that. XD I've been so scared that I'm being haunted ! Because I have dreams like this a lot. Sometimes I wake up with goose bumps. But really, than you .. I'm less afraid now.

Naw, it's nop problem. I've known the literally oppressive dreams (oppressive is when a demon.spirit is tormenting you without taking control of your body). My wife and aI were in a spiritual battle some time ago when we were returning to Christianity from Norse/Wicca. Oppression dreams build on fear and the thought that your salvation is lost. Everything else is nothing to fret over...technically, neither is that, since faith is all you need to overcome it

Well still... That's kind of scary. & im just glad im not being haunted. I had this one dream that I went to this man's apartment just to have sex with him. When i got to his apartment there was this gorilla ( & I HATE THEM). I told the man i couldnt have sex with him while the gorilla was in the room, so he took it out & then it attacked me. Then i went down this hallway with many doors. The wall paper was old & the wood was dusty. There were only doors on the left. I went into one of the rooms with the man. There were two men, me, and another girl. She & i were dressed like Greeks & we were supposed to strip for the two men in this bath. I guess i was supposed to submerge myself in the water & then take my clothes off, but i did the opposite of that. The next thing i knew the men were attacking the girl. I don't really remember what happened from there, all i remember is seeing a girl laying on the ground... decapitated. Her body reached out for me and she was trying to pull me to the floor. When i woke up i had a panic attack. I was shaking & just couldn't stop. I was SO scared. It was so real... And i never watch scary movies or anything. I was convinced i was being haunted, but then my counselor told me that people with anxiety often have strange dreams that are very vivid & realistic to subconsciously deal with problems.
