I'm trying to understand what's happened with me. Either my bipolar illness has progressed over time to the point where I need drugs for sleep, or it is the lack of orgasms for the past three years (due to Risperdal and then Geodon - soon I will stop Geodon and try something else hoping for orgasms to return) causing lack of unmedicated sleep. I remember routinely falling asleep after either partner sex or masturbation, without meds. Without even Melatonin. But that was a long time ago.

So either orgasms are such powerful sleep inducers, or it is my illness+age.

I'm female so maybe things are different. While I'm completely relaxed after orgasm it does nothing for sleep for me. With or without I have a really hard time falling asleep.

I think yes, it could be. You are definitely exhausted after an orgasm. If it works, just do it! Hahaha It is healthy even. Better than any meds..

I find that sex, orgasmic or not, is sleep inducing. I expend a lot of energy and there is a sense of love, peace, and contentment that follows. For my husband it is almost always sleep inducing.

I'm not female, and sex doesn't normally put me to sleep, unless it's more than one round of it. But I'd have to say probly a little of both comumn a and b

orgasms with either a partner or masturbation can put me right to sleep because it relieves the excess energy and stresses of the day while at the same time the sex can be a great form of exercise

Sometimes orgasms help relax, release, and/or relieves (and/or abates) some times it doesn't. If it helps you to sleep, reduces stress, relieves or lessens pain, an appetite that needs sating and release, aids in a needed switch, improves your mood puting a smile on your face go for it!!!!!! Lots of benefits from frequent, multiple orgasms alone or with SO.Helps with some pain relief, definite stress release/reducer!!! and, lol, sadly a show of hope and reminder that annie* is still alive
Good luck and
sincerly,

*PS: Can surprise us/me s when so depressed hopeless dead-feeling, that can put off CPR...an annie-like part(s) is still alive and breathing!!!

While they are definitly relaxing for me, they do NOT lull me to sleep, they just rejuvinate and re-energize me and leave me wanting more orgasms. Instantly revs up my sex drive Bf doesn't mind as long as I give him a 15min breather
Thanks for this!

I guess depends on the person. After sex I can go to sleep but usually I'm ready to go again in a couple minutes after orgasm. After a orgasming a few times I'm ready for sleep. masturbating before bed can relax me to lull me to sleep but its not a regular thing. Sometimes I'm just too awake and it doesn't matter. I also have difficulty sleeping.

Sexual feelings and anxiety often get tangled together. The release of sexual tensions can give a temporary relief from anxiety. Thus you can fall asleep better.

I do not normally have a problem with anxiety. I just have what now seems to be a stand-alone sleep problem, as of several years ago. I used to think it is part of bipolar, but now it seems that I do not have bipolar (too early to say, but most likely), but I still have the sleep problem. Beats me...

They are exercise, so yes, they can help one get to sleep, it's sexual energy that is drained. Lack of orgasm doesn't negatively influence sleep though; I don't know any virgins, monks, etc. that aren't getting sleep :-)

I'd look at your meds and diet, supplements, etc. if you are having sleep difficulties.

Sex headaches you might want to tell your doctor about? Sex headaches - MayoClinic.com

It is not necessary that it will help release tension always!

I'd look at your 1) meds and 2) diet, 3) supplements, etc. if you are having sleep difficulties.

1) meds - I did have some hope to have this problem self-resolve when I went off Prozac, because Prozac is known to cause insomnia, which is why it is usually taken first thing in the morning. The dose of Prozac I was on was tiny, but still... so I had hopes. A month and a half off Prozac - no relief. Will wait for longer, hoping... No other meds, other than sleep meds.

2) I eat a perfect diet complete with a banana and a glass of warm milk at bedtime

3) supplements - Melatonin stopped working a while ago.

Will look at the Mayo clinic link - thanks!

I think it is part of a more general program she knows about - I have been having migraines since age 3... so yes, a problem with the blood vessels in the brain, as mentioned on the MayoClinic page.
