Is it natural to sleep but not remember any of your dreams? I mean theoretically people spend about a third of their lives asleep shouldn't I remember some of my dreams at least. Maybe that goes for the part that I can't sleep well, I mean i only get 2-3 hrs of sleep a night.

That is way. You have a deep sleep periond, but are avoiding the dreaming period. Most dreams get their start with feelings. You are probably affraid of your feelings and don't want to deal with them. Thus the lack of sleep.

The first 4 hours should be deep dreamless sleep.
Unless I get at least 6 hours I don't tend to recall my dreams. For that matter I barely recall why I have to get up after a week or two of a schedule less than that. |

90 minutes is the average I heard. But if you're sleep deprived you go into dream sleep faster.
People usually remember dreams more if they get to sleep more hours so their sleep becomes shallow. When th sleep is shallow you tend to wake up here and there for a few seconds and the dream will record into your memory. If you have no wakeups or don't wake straight from a dream you have not recorded them into your memory. If you sleep uninterruptedly and wake up from deep sleep you will not remember the dreams even if you probably dream more if you are sleep deprived. It seems like depressed people also get more dream sleep and less deep sleep, but this is not true for everyone. I know someone who basically does not dream. |
