Fourth day in a row without sleeping.

Medication doesn't help me, at all(I've tried far too many). Actually most medication I've tried for sleep has made matters worse and not better.

I don't know why I can't sleep. That makes it even more irritating. If there were some kind of obvious reason, I could work with that. But I don't have one of those. I just can't sleep.

This is one of the most persistently frustrating issues I deal with, it's just as bad as ever with no signs of improvement. I've tried everything from medication to meditation and nothing ever works or if it does it's only for one night or something then it's back to this crap.

I'm posting this for no reason other than to complain.

Seriously, have your tried relaxiation therapy? Meditation? I've been there, and that's rotten, but relaxation therapy left me feeling relaxed, even if it didn;t help me with the sleep especially.

Also, have you ever considered lavender oil on your pillows? Strangley it works for me. Also so does valerian and meletonin, but you'd need to ask your doc first.

Are you avoiding caffeine and sugar after 3pm...and avoiding the computer (or phone) after 8pm?

Yes and yes. Neither were effective.

I haven't tried this yet, I'll see if it helps.

Yes to all of the above. Sometimes I stay on the computer or on the phone late at night, but that's because I want to be awake. Otherwise, I deliberately avoid those things after a certain time at night because I know they'll make it much harder to sleep.

I've tried valerian and melatonin, again neither were effective.

Thanks for the suggestions and taking the time to respond.

Any chance you might need your thyroid checked? Difficulty sleeping can be the result of hyperthyroid.
Thanks for this!

Just go with your current sleep cycle. Don't resist it. It looks like the more you resist, the worse you feel. Just let yourself fall into your own personal sleep schedule without forcing any thing on yourself.
Thanks for this!

sadaralo, I've had it checked in the past but not recently. If this keeps up for much longer in such a consistent manner I'll probably get it checked again. It can't hurt to make sure.

Thunder Bow, good point. I think I do sometimes resist my sleep cycles, I don't do it consciously but it can still mess things up for me none the less. Thanks for pointing that out.
