I know I have been dreaming at night, but I don't know how to remember the dreams. Does anyone have any ideas of how I can remember my dreams. I want to remember them so bad. I know my dreams are telling me something, but what? I tried writing them down as soon as I wake up, but that did not work. What else can i do?

When you wake up from a dream, try not to do so as a result of an alarm clock because that'll draw your attention away from the dream which'll make it easy to forget. If you over-concentrate and try to decipher the dream, you'll just end up making up pieces and confuse yourself, just jott down the smallest things you can remember, no matter how irrelevant they may seem. And carry a little notebook with you throughout the day in case you remember something. Oh and before you go to sleep, place a note in the first place you'll look, when you awake, that says "what did you dream?". It's also very important that you aren't sleep deprived as that will make you very groggy and tired when you first wake up, which'll make it more difficult to recall your dreams. The more you attemt this, the easier it'll be to recall your dreams.

The only other thing I could think of suggesting here is if you would have any ability to lucid dream here. It takes a lot of practice, but it can help retain information. Have you ever had the luxury of naturally becoming aware that you are dreaming while your dreaming? If you can tune in on those moments and make yourself snapshots of moments. Tell yourself this isn't real, it's a dream, I must remember, and continue with the journaling process. There are various books that can help prepare your mind for lucid dreaming.
You could also practice meditation before falling asleep. It will help you to gain control of this part of your mind. |

The most effective method to help yourself remember your dreams is to make proper use of your mind. Just telling yourself that you want to remember your dreams is not sufficient because this is nothing but an emotional expression of a desire. What the mind requires is “good reason”. If you provide yourself with good reasons as to why you wish to remember the dreams, you will have more success. You need to impress the reasons upon the mind somewhat like hammering in a nail. Try thinking along the following lines and repeat the whatever good reasons you have a few times during the day.
“I really want to remember my dreams – because I have become aware that they contain messages and information that can be very useful and beneficial to me.” “I really want to remember my dreams - because they provide me with a view into the contents of my own mind and can help me get to know myself.” “I really want to remember my dreams - because they can show me the errors in my thinking and better connect me with the Lord.” Thinking in this manner can also be used to help break bad habits {smoking, over eating, swearing etc…}. The mind will help you accomplish your goal if you provide it with good reasons for doing so. The mind is there to work for you. Always emphasize your REASONS. |
