So I've been having a lot of trouble with my sleep lately, I can't seem to find twenty minutes without waking up for some strange reason. I've always had an irregular sleep pattern in that one night I'll sleep three hours, the next I'll sleep five and the night after I just won't sleep, that'd be followed by something obscene like twenty hours and than back to five and twenty after that. So I'd sleep quite hectically and very randomly and no one really knows why .
But lately it's just been too difficult to get to sleep at all, when I finally escape the ruminating of my mind, that I'm so used to, and I actually get to sleep, I'll find myself waking up in twenty minutes, somtimes just by opening my eyes and other times by jerking up right, but always very suddenly. According to my girlfriend, I've been twitching a lot in my sleep and it's been waking me up.
So I'm just wondering if anyone has had any problems or experiences with irregular sleep patterns or twitching in your sleep. If you don't mind, I'm curious as to what it was like for you and what you find helps?

hi, ive been having troubles with my sleep. sometimes i get to sleep a few hours without waking up but a lot of the times something wakes me up every hour or every few hours and then i can't go back to sleep. i have tried some things but they dont always work. ive tried mindfulness exercises before going to bed, calming music, calming oils, taking melatonin..have you considered going to a sleep lab? i think for me it could have to do with anxiety or depression and the fact that i dont exhaust myself enough during the day. my whole day/night rhythm is off right now. maybe its similar for you. i hope someone else can suggest things to do that help. good luck

Just go with your current pattern. You seem to be getting by just fine. Anxiety often is the reason for trouble sleeping.
Thanks for this!

Huh, more people have this than I thought there would be.
I hope you're sleeping okay now, chocmouse. I might try some of the things you've attempted, hopefully with good results.
The last time I spoke to a doctor about this, I was told that it was pretty common in anxious people. Apparently stress is the number one cause and that sometimes it can be Tourette Syndrome. Very rarely it could be an early sign of a neurological disease, not likely though.
