I have been having horrid dreams since I was 11. 90% of my dreams are of the nightmare variety, but the 1 thing they all have in common?
I can NEVER scream/call for help. NEVER My voice is instantly pathetically raspy or completely non-existant the moment I scream. Even if I was just talking right before the scream moment ![]() Now most of my dreams being your garden variety of nightmare, they don't upset me so much anymore, EXCEPT these ones. Where I really really scream with all I got so that Jamie Lee Curtis would be proud, but not a damn sound exits my mouth, and I even wake up with a throat that feels raw from screaming my lungs out ![]() And yes, just had another weird one, in fact so disturbing, I woke myself up to check if my voice was really gone! ![]() Last edited by Trippin2.0; Apr 13, 2013 at 08:13 AM. |

What were you dreaming of, just before you had to scream?

It started off as a "normal" dream.
I was looking outside for our kitten because he never returned after doing his business. I was in the yard, the floodlight went on and I saw our kitten staring at this tiny tiny cute baby hamster. I decided I would bring the baby hamster in as well, and just as I was saying this to my mom who was watching everything through her window, the tiny hamster dissapeared where the floodlight doesn't reach.... So I take out my celphone to make some light. Instead of finding the tiny white baby hamster I find a hole in the ground with an angry feral mother cat and her equally feral kittens. And here's where it gets nasty..... The cats were feeding on a live little boy ![]() ![]() I looked at the window to scream for my mom but she was talking to my daughter and not facing me anymore. My screams were strangled and hoarse as usual. It was so disturbing I woke myself up to test my voice and my throat was SORE as if I was screaming.... |

Do you keep things to yourself and struggle to express in real life

I'm excellent at expression. Just have nobody to express the important stuff to...

Illumination, and introspection are in this dream. The cat and her kittens are in hole in the ground, beyond illumination, as was the little boy. These things are within you just, below your conscious mind. You looked within using the cell phone light, a light that only you carried. You saw the cat and her kittens using your own mind (light). The cats were consuming the helpless little boy. (a part of you that feels helpless). Those who you look for for help were not paying attention to you.
You could not scream for help because you no longer feel helpless. You feel ignored, yet you you have a wild side, that takes care of her kittens. I don't feel horrified by your dream. Instead I think of the Sacred Forked Tree. |

Thank you, that does make sense except I'm still horrified for the little child... Gives me the creeps when I think of it and I don't get the creeps easy.

I hate that! I had a terrifying nightmare and was trying to scream and trying to wake; turned out I was really screaming but lying on my "good" ear so couldn't hear myself (but my poor husband could, loud and clear :-) and by the time I woke my husband ultimately had to get up (7:30 on a Saturday morning :-) but I was able to keep myself awake enough to get rid of the dream and then go back to sleep. I got up a couple hours later and apologized to him profusely and he replied, "I'm just sorry you had to have a dream like that!" Sweet boy
![]() I guess if I had that happen all the time, I'd try to think of some way to confront and deal with the nightmare instead of trying to get away/being horrified. It's kind of how one has trouble running in nightmares too (I do at least); maybe the message is to deal with the material instead of running away. I know when I get a disturbing dream, if I don't "get it" the dreams sometimes repeat and/or get worse.

The child is your helpless self. In the dream you did not rescue the child or try chasing the cats away, you looked for your mother instead. Thus the cats consumed the child.
