It only happened's a few times a year but sometimes as i'm falling asleep i hear loud bangs or in the past i heard a mans voice that said "don't give up" . well last night it happened again and I haven't had this in such a long time. i was falling asleep and could hear everyone else talking amongst themselves in the living room, well im just about to sleep and the noise from everyone in living room finally drowned out..
then all of a sudden i hear a bang and my self talk, and then my self talk didnt sound like me.. creeped me the heck out.. Please tell me someone else has experienced this! I told my therapist i feared my anxiety was turning into some other mental health issue, but it only happeneds once in a blue moon and always as i drift off to sleep. I do feel run down all the time but i can fall asleep with ease usually. i just wake up unrested. also if im drifting off to sleep and someone drops a pen or something else on the floor in living room or kitchen it pierces right through me .. is this because im finally relaxed so i get jumpy? the best way to describe it is i feel like im dreaming my body is asleep yet my brain hasnt quite shut off when this happened's
Thanks for this!

Not insane at all. This happens to me every night. As I fall asleep not only do I hear noises, but I hear distinct and sometimes loud voices talking to me about stuff in my life, which is really not such a bad thing especially since it can lead directly into lucid dreaming where you can gain incredible insights. If your anxious about it, it could get to be a problem because you might freak yourself out and think your house is haunted or that there are demons or something like that. However, the voices before sleeping in itself is not dangerous or anything to be scared about

Those "voices" are coming from your own mind. Can you remember who said those kind of things to you in the past? You indeed, are listening to your self talk.

I haven't had these experiences, but the sci-fi writer Philip K **** wrote about his experiences with this. When he was falling asleep, he could hear voices from another being that would help him sort out his life. In his dreams he was another person living in ancient roman times, when he would sleep as that person, Thomas, he could hear voices from the author, Philip. Interesting stuff, worth a read if you haven't heard of it before.

Wow, the roars or growling is not good. I believe there do exist spirits/ghosts and many people have reported that they can communicate with them as voices in their mind. And, ones that speak growlingly or deep man's voice are normally not there to help you but terrify you. The "don't give up" is not necessarily a good message, because the spirit is not saying what you must not give up. Also, if it's a spirit talking and he's using the f-word, that's not a good sign either.
