When I am having sleep troubles I avoid being on my laptop, watching TV or playing games on my phone as I know all these things can actually make your brain more awake... However so many doctors and other people have suggested reading before bed can help...
Do you think reading with a kindle will help or make it worse. Because it's still a light screen and I'm not sure whether I just cant sleep or if I shouldnt use the kindle before bed?

I would experiment and see what affected me and what was okay? I use my Nook nightly before bed to read and my bedside light I don't know how much light might be too much for me and what other factors (time I go to bed and time I get up, what I've had to eat and when, medicines I'm taking, etc.) influence it.
Here's an article on the science of lights and sleep: Blue light has a dark side - Harvard Health Publications

I have owned a Kindle Paperwhite for more than a year now and it has not affected my sleep per se. It is just my own experience, may be yours is different. Also I think it depends on how much time one spends reading stuff on Kindle (or any other device using e-ink based display)... Also imo, the timing matters as well. Using an electronic device just before going to bed may interrupt sleep.

Depends a kindle fire is basically just as bad as a laptop....paper white just dim the backlight a lot and you should be OK. You can do whatever you want if you put on blue blocking sunglasses or use a program to filter the blue light out...
