Had a dream that I noticed a large black rather odd looking scorpion moving across the floor. I killed it of course. Annihilated it. Or so I thought. I noticed the very tip of the stinger was still intact. I was shouting to someone to keep the cats away until I could get the stinger. A kitten got to it before I could. The kitten died quickly and painfully. I felt awful. I suppose I was the scorpion, the stinger, and the kitten? And also whoever it was I was hoping would hold the cats back?
Why must I do everything

They only parts of yourself, not all of you. I think in this dream you are stinging yourself in side. "Why Must I do everything" is your stinger.

They say and by they I mean some of those people who claim to be dream interpretation experts-that when you dream about a scorpion that it is a sign of overconfidence in some area of your life. I once had a similar dream and when I sought out its meaning that was what I learned

Thanks but currently I think I can safely rule out overconfidence in any part of my life. Or does that sound overconfident

I'm usually confident enough to step up but that's as much about my obstinence and perseverance as it is about confidence. The dream could have had something to do with my phobia of scorpions This was really a short and simple dream by my usual standards. There was probably some symbolism there. I killed the scorpion yet still couldn't save the kitten... that was the whole dream.
Usually my dreams are epic... cinematic.
If I could hold on to details long enough to write them down I'd probably have a couple of novels or screenplays under my belt lol.

Okay, the scorpion is very similar to a dragon, which has a lot of meaning in psychology and mythology. The dragon represents the more severe conflicts and fears you are dealing with, and every part of him has meaning. Go to NATURE ART to read about the meaning of dragons. Everything about dragons means something.
Kittens can represent your more vulnerable, tender, inner child, who feels threatened. Along with that are your feelings of helplessness and guilt to protect and cure yourself. You killed, or wished to kill, a bad problem in your life, but it comes back alive despite your efforts. That's what I see in it, anyway.

BTW the scorpion became my totem animal, in a way, and has numinous, mystical meaning for me because of an experience I had with one in real life. My relatives and friends always told me that if a scorpion ever stings anyone, they will surely die. And so I believed. Then a scorpion stung me on the arm one day, and I knew for sure that I was going to die in a few hours. I sat in a chair and cried, grieving and fearing my immanent death. So, I know what it's really like to face death. Of course someone told me I wouldn't die from the little Florida scorpion, and they all laughed at me. But I do know from that how it feels to face my own death, and always will.
