Hi,

I have had vivid technicolor dreams all my life. Maybe one or two a month but recently in the past 2 years I have had vivid long lasting dreams every night. I have an inner ear disorder and extreme vertigo and take Klonopin daily. I am also in the middle of a nasty work injury case, extremely anxious and depressed and am now taking Cymbalta. I am also recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and take two types of insulin. I am 56 and take many more drugs for medical reasons. I tried Ambien and I still had bad dreams. Anything with benedryl in it makes the dreams worse. I have also tried teas for sleeping.
My dreams include everyone I have ever known both good and bad. Every job and home I have ever lived in and lots of animals, all friendly to me. Even if I get up after a rough dream and walk around for a few minutes to completely wake up I can go back to sleep and the same dream will start again but in another spot.
Can anyone suggest a sleeping pill with minimal side effects that might help?
Hugs from:

ive heard melitonin (sp?) is a natural sleep aid.
with cymbalta tho, it can have affects on ones dreams. i had lucid dreams allnight long when i first started on it. then after a while it turned into dreams that would collect over the years and end up having a whole dream world area. i wasnt lucid in these, but it was more like at night i would have a change in my reality.. the dream world had its own reality which i thought the things i happened in the daytime were dreams, and then when i woke up, i would be in this reality (where everyone else is). long story short- cymbalta can play a big part in the dreams a person has.
have they tried the time released ambiene?
ambiene was the only one i didnt have side effects from.
the sleeping meds i know of are lunesta, trazadon(when i was a kid i had no side effects but when i reached my teen years i felt drugged hours after waking up), ambiene, benedryl, and im currently on seroquel for sleep. i rarely have dreams unless im napping later on in the day once the seroquel has gotten out of my system.

Medications can cause this. Talk to your doctor about getting off of them.
