Does anyone have advice on how to go back to sleep after a nightmare without falling right back into it? I occasionally have very horrific, slasher-type nightmares (I'm not a participant, just an observer), and they repeat all night long. I've tried getting up and having a snack, reading for a while, etc., and so far nothing works.

Being an observer means you are watching things going on around you, in real life. Thus dream may relate to how you are feeling about what is going on around you in real life.
