I've had problems sleeping before. I found something that helped, and it's going to sound weird. Go on to youtube and look up bedtime meditations. There is one on there that's about forty minutes that the guy talks and you focus soley on his voice and imagine what he tells you to, it knocks me out everytime. Another thing that really helped, was before that meditation, I did another meditation to just clear my mind before listening to the other. When you're focusing on the voices and sounds, you're not thinking of your problems and it helps you relax, clear your mind and fall asleep. Good luck ![]() |

I think meditations are a good idea. Helped me a couple of years ago against rumination. Now I am listening to the radio when I lie in bed, preferably talk programs. The chatting of people makes me eventually fall asleep and when not I ruminate less. Still sometimes I use medication.

Dx: Mix anhedonia with Bipolar II. Add some insomnia and chronic stress. Season with paroxetine and a pinch of ADD. Stir well to induce a couple of hypo/manic episodes. After the excess of energy is gone, remove the Paroxetine and serve chilled with some C-PTSD and GAD. Ready is your MDD. Mx: To clean up the mess use lamotrigine, risperidon, mirtazapine and sertraline. Let it soak in for a while but keep a close eye on it. Meanwhile enjoy your desert of oxazepam/temazepam prn. |

I highly suggest you see your doctor about meds... and whether or not you should try them. There can be side effects to both medication and to lack of sleep, so (from what you've said) it sounds like you will need something to help you get to sleep and stay asleep. I tried an over-the-counter sleep aid, Sleep-eze, but my pdoc suggested I use an antidepressant at nighttime. For me, it makes sense to combat depression and insomnia with one medication. Your situation could be very different. If you need sleep asap and can't see your doctor right away, I suggest trying a sleep aid, but be completely honest with your doctor so that you can find a long-term solution.
*I should also add that you may want to consider counseling or some CBT to help with your racing thoughts/worries at bedtime.* Hopefully this helps - take care, and I'm right there with you, sleepless.
