I have recurring nightmares, I have had them all of my life but recently I have a brand new one and it is terrifying me so much I am fighting the need for sleep to avoid living the nightmare again.
(WARNING - may disturb some with lava issues) In this particular nightmare I am with a small group of strangers in the middle of nowhere when a meteor strikes the planet, it shatters one of the larger European tectonic plates causing a massive subduction and the Earth's crust shrinks a little, not by much but enough for the Earth's surface to be flooded by lava. The nightmare is very involved, there is a lot going on and it goes on for a long time, essentially the world is ending and this small group of people with myself included are running for our lives through horrifying scenes filled with mile high lava falls, people are being killed everywhere in the most horrific ways from gases through to lava flows. The dream never ends as I always awake screaming as my feet begin to burn as the entire planets surface begins to superheat and begins melting. When I awake it takes me so long to come to my senses, I feel extremely hot and my feet still hurt intensely as though they had really been burned. It takes me a good long while to build up the courage to look out of the windows to see if the world is melting or if everything is okay out there. Does anyone have any ideas what this dream is all about and more importantly how I can get it to stop, I desperately need to get some proper safe sleep, my mind is starting to play tricks on me I'm so exhausted from not sleeping properly. |

Well, first you might want to get in for a sleep study. Not for your rem cycles, but for your body temperature. Often times, things in our dreams reflect how our body is physically feeling while we sleep (like dreaming of water when you have to pee). There's a chance, considering the feeling of heat stays after waking, that the heat sensation starts physically and translates to lava in the dream. In the meantime, maybe get a fan to cool you off while you sleep.
The imagery of mass destruction is often attributed to a cataclysmic change in your life, or one that is perceived/anticipated (even if it's not based in reality). Are you anxious about some upcoming event/issue? Has something major come up in your life that you haven't been able to resolve? That it's a world-changing event translates to the fear that whatever is driving this fear is inescapable. There's also another theme here - fire. The heat of lava/fire often symbolizes determination, passion, and change. It's destructive and driving. It's captivating and devastating. This is a more vague perspective, and will probably take second chair to the theme of destruction. ((Is your life changing in major ways that you are feeling you're losing control over?)) Something to consider - what were the other people like? How do you relate to them? All characters in the dream are essentially projections of different parts of yourself. Getting to know the characters may help you understand what parts of your own personality are felt as being threatened. Look for commonalities between them, and consider events in your waking life that might be influencing that part of yourself.

I have recently had my Ex partner of 14 years walk out on me with my 2 daughters and she is denying me any access to my daughters, so yes, I should say I have a very large change in my life, I am not coping without my girls in my life at all.
The group of people in my dream are a motley bunch, none of us trusts each other, each of us are accusing the others for our finding ourselves suddenly out in the middle of nowhere and we are engaged in a thunderous argument when the meteor strikes the planet. |

So, the group reflects the blame being placed in the separation....that's my interpretation. each of them may be some trait or viewpoint tryign to reconcile itself to the situation...

You could have something there, although I blame only myself for the separation between myself and my Ex' but the refusal to see my children, that is resting solely on her shoulders.
I have a great deal of self loathing and self hatred within me, I know that I am far from being a perfect person in fact I know myself to be a bad person because why else would I be refused access to my children. I try with all of my heart and soul to be a good person but I know that there is a bad side to me and I guess that is on the surface more than I realised. |

This dream is about big changes in your life, and how the world burned up under your feet. Being your feet, means you fled the situation. You got burned by that situation.

Now that is an interesting observation there, I am guessing you mean spiritually I have fled from the situation for in actuality it was my Ex' who left the building physically so in fact she is the one who fled the situation.
