And it is very annoying!! I am tired around 10 PM or so and try to go to sleep. Dark room, meditation on body preparing for good night's rest, I am sound asleep, etc....I think I sleep for a very little while then I am WIDE AWAKE and cannot get back to sleep until about 2 AM. I wake up around 8:30 AM which really isn't bad. And I don't feel tired during the day.

I am trying to make the best of it but it is really annoying!!!

Rant over!! Thanks!!

Well... I'm an old man. And, if you happen to know anything about old men, you know we have to pee... a lot... at least I do! I typically have to get up at least 2 or 3 times a night to go. Sometimes I can't get back to sleep. And yes it can be annoying!

What I do is to get up & do walking meditation, sometimes for as much as an hour or more. We live in a one-level townhome. So I walk from the front to the back around-&-around through our dark & quiet unit. I notice the feeling as each foot touches the floor. I hear the sounds of the city in the distance. Thoughts come-&-go. I let them arise-&-fade at their own pace.

If a difficult thought comes up, I breathe into it & smile to it. I may even place a hand over my heart as a sign of compassion for it. (As the 11th century Tibetan Buddhist yogini Machig Labdrön said: "In other traditions demons are expelled externally. But in my tradition demons are accepted with compassion.") I enjoy this so much that if I haven't had occasion to do it for a while, I miss it. Once I do go back to bed I'm able to go back to sleep.

It seems to be working itself out. I am still going to sleep really late but I am not having to use any sleep aids which I am overjoyed about!

I had this trouble going through the change...my sleep was a mess. I do tend lately, however, to wake up around 1:30 or 2:00 for no reason. Don't have to pee or anything, just open my eyes and there I am...awake...too early...feeling full of energy....debating on whether I should get up...etc.

I can’t relate to what you went through during your “change “ lol , but I can relate to your current situation. If I go to sleep too early, let’s say before 10 or 11 , I’m up by 2am. And weirdly enough I mean up ! Like I never went to sleep at all. Then I find it very difficult to get back to sleep. I feel like even if I get 6-8 hours straight, ( which is rare ) , I never really slept at all. The minute I open my eyes the **** machine kicks in full gear. I don’t like taking sleeping pills as then I feel groggy the whole next day ! I feel like some people when they say , “I’ll sleep when I’m dead “ !

I go to bed normally around 8:30 or 9 because I have to get up at 4 to care for my pets and stuff before work. If I go to bed any later...I cannot get up easily. (I am not a morning person anyway.) Like I said, it has gotten mush better, but menopause was certifiably NUTS!!!! It would take me half a page to explain how crazy I got. I did not use any meds at all....but it is over now. (yay). My worst problem with waking up like that is that when I finally DO go back to sleep...I am a zombie when the alarm goes off.
