Hi folks. I just started Modafinil. I'm taking 100 mg mid-morning to see how it works. I'm supposed to be on 200 mg in the morning, but I thought 100mg in the morning, then another in the afternoon might be better.

Does anybody have an experience with this drug? What am I to expect?

Cheers

Hi PhilMC I went to the manufacturers website and found this that it helps people stay awake. The site prevents copying info so check it out if interested.

This may not be something good to take anywhere near bed time but you could also ask your pharmacist or prescriber

Yes that's why I asked to take it. But expectations vs reality can be different. I've taken it twice now and it doesn't really seem to do anything. But I'll give it a whirl.

It didn't do anything for me. Neither Provigil nor the newer Nuvigil did anything. I tried them more than 2 years ago. If I was sleepy in the morning, I could take one of them and go straight to sleep

I plan to restart them, though, to try again. I will let you know if I fare better on them this time around.

Thanks for the notes. I was awake for two days, and two days off, I'm back asleep in the afternoon. Granted, a lunch with beer does that to me. I've not felt anything strangely aware, as I was expecting like when I feel after a coffee. I know the financial world thought this was going to be something amazing. But I don't trust banksters anyway.

Will keep trying.

Well, two Modafinils and a cup of coffee. Feels great. Not sure if this is a logical stack but it's working.

I had to go through heart tests to see if I could get on it. I ride a bike and everything was just fine, until the helathcare system needed more money from me. I don't know who to believe anymore.

Oh, I see. Do you had a stress test on the bike?

No it was on a treadmill. I ride a bike. I had to do a stress test when my heart was fine, for some reason, because my doctor that knows I ride a bike, thought my heart couldn't take it. I ride across Europe on a bike. When I went through all the sleep tests and heart tests, he told me I should see a sleep specialist. I told him "I have one. I've done all the tests. He jokes that I should start doing them a second time." I've been seeing this doctor for 16 years, every 3 months. I'm starting to think this is a big joke.

OK, here's an update.

The 200 mg with coffee has me up to midnight at a minimum. Full day and then some. Very bad sleep until the next day. Didn't take any drugs nor coffee and had a well needed sleep.

Just tried 100 mg with a coffee this morning and needed to nap today. So that's apparently not an option either. I'll try this again tomorrow.

It doesn't look like Modafinil has any predictable or reliable behaviour for me. This isn't looking good at all.

Have you tried taking them early int he morning? When I was on it I set an alarm and took it about 4 AM, went back to sleep for an hour and woke up ready for work. It never gave me problems falling asleep as long as I monitored my bipolar and didn't take it when hypomanic.

I don't know about combining it with coffee as I gave it up years ago but it may not be the best except very early in the AM.

Just my experience; everyone is different.

I don't know about dosage. It's been a long time since I took it. But I did have luck with taking it really early. I think I had to leave for work at 7 so about 3 hours before I needed to be awake I think. I was on a huge amount of Seroquel at the time so that may have affected my results.

Took 100mg around 8 am and a Noon-ish single coffee. Had a horrible sleep and got into a proper sleep at 5 am. Slept until Noon today, then got out of the house. Had a meal with a single coffee and came home. Passed out at my desk, got into bed for a sleep. I got up at 6:30 pm.

This is lunacy. None of this is approaching anything predictable.

OK, since today was an absolute failure twice over, I'm taking a new strategy. 100mg Modafinil at 11 am to push off afternoon issues. Off coffee for a while. I might bring it back when my stress levels reduce (I'm moving). Given that the natural reduction in caffeine means adenosine absorption, which puts me to sleep, I'd rather just eliminate this altogether to see how the Modafinil 11 am dosage works.

When you say "this," what are you referring to?
