Hello. I had quit smoking 4 years ago february, but started again due to stress mid january. I am wanting to quit and wanting to perhaps have a quit-smoking buddy. I personally have to go cold turkey, other ways seem to only make me smoke more. I have one pack left, then would like to quit.
Anyone wanna be my cessation buddy? |

what's that involve?
I'm proud that you quit for so long! I think you need to just go cold turkey again. Obviously you're using it because of the stress. What will you replace this bad habit with...a good habit I hope! __________________ |

good on you onmyway and Jan. I quit cold turkey too. It only takes three days for most of the nicotine to be out of your body. After two weeks there is no more physical withdrawal. Then all you have to do is to stay smoke free for one day at a time. I can't wait to hear how both of you are going. It is tough going at the start but it does get easier and easier. Stay strong

Hi solossometimes, I feel for you. I have lost family to cancer and have also battled with quitting and relapsing during the tough times. That was before I found a dedicated cold turkey educational web site. They taught me that smoking doesn’t relieve stress. Stress causes a chemical reaction in your body that depletes the nicotine levels, putting you into withdrawal. So when you have a smoke and feel better it is because you have stopped the withdrawal. It only takes three days for the worst of nicotine withdrawal to end so if you smoke during a stressful situation after that you won’t be stopping withdrawal and you probably won’t feel better, more likely it will taste horrible and make you cough and feel dizzy. Nicotine addiction is the same as any other addiction so if you use nicotine after you have been through withdrawal you will re-establish your addiction and end up using the same amount as before or maybe more. Studies have shown that we cope with stress better and are calmer when we don’t use nicotine. You are not weak, you are addicted. It happens to lots of us. You don’t have to be strong to quit, you just need to know how!

Well we are trying this again...I keep buying them and then end up giving them away because they don't taste good.
I get groceries tomorrow so we will try not to buy them again. I had gotten some from the neighbor yesterday and then this morning took the rest of the pack back to him and then after lunch with the family I went and bought another pack and ended up giving those away also. So I am just wasting money so we will see how this week goes. I have an incentive to not smoke. Next week on the 1st I have a nicotine test to see if I am smoking and if it comes back positive I can't have my last reconstructive surgery. I heard it takes about a week for the nicotine to get out of your system so we will see. Jan |

Good luck Jan, I'm pretty sure it takes two weeks for all of the nicotine to be out of your system but you could try drinking friut juices. Drinking juices like cranberry have the same chemical effect as stress so it depletes the nicotine levels in your body. Here are a couple of links to some quitting articles and audio lessons.
http://www.whyquit.com/joel/Joel_Ind...g_Smoking.html http://whyquit.com/joel/mp3/listen.html I believe you can do this! We are lucky here in New Zealand that they are going to ban tobacco displays and one supermarket chain volunterily hide their smokes. it is a real teptation when you first quit. Reward your self with a choc bar or something nice when you get through the grocery shopping without buying any won't you. |
