So, back when I went to school in September, my gym teacher was big on making us feel good about ourselves and building up self-esteem.. To be honest I wish I had continued going just for that.. But anyways the first week she gave us all red yarn, and tied one piece around one of our wrists. She said, "Wear this string to remind you that you are beautiful and strong young women, and also remind you to work hard to be the best you can possibly be everyday."
Even though I abandoned school, and abandoned the latter half of that statement, I still wear this string constantly. It makes me feel better, like I belonged to something special once. Those few minutes when I thought I had lost it (because it had gotten so stretched and worn that it fell off) I felt as if I had lost a piece of what made me me and couldn't stop feeling sad until I found it again. I don't think I'll ever take it off (intentionally) for the rest of my life. ![]() |

That is a great story, I agree. I wish my gym teacher had been like that. Mine was an a-hole who gave me and my friend "diet tips" (we're both overweight)..I'm glad you have this physical reminder of strength to keep with you - little things like that just make the day so much better.

Yeah, it does. Even when we had to do the BMI tests and all of that as the starting point for our progress she told us even if we ended up in the "under weight" category or the "over weight" category by that chart it shouldn't be taken personally as everyone's body is made differently. She made sure we understood this before we started. She is a really good teacher; tough but kind and smart. All schools should have teachers like her!
In my old school we had a teacher that made kids cry. He basically attacked our self-esteems even if it wasn't necessary and forced us to address him like we were all in the military. This was our science teacher for heaven's sake!!! |
