Thought I was doing better this week. Until today, when I had to drive back to my apartment three times to get stuff I've forgotten.

Frustrated at the world (except this site) because it seems that everyone believes that low self-esteem is a good thing: that it makes you work harder and stay humble. My low self-esteem is making it extremely hard to find a new job -- I cannot bring myself to ask for references or favors in order to apply for the freaking jobs. And then the world tells me that the problem is that I have too much self-esteem: that the real reason I have a problem getting a job is because I'm too "entitled". Because I don't try hard enough.

And maybe they're right. The truth is I am not trying hard enough. I want an easy job that I don't have to pay much attention to so I can escape into my imagination because it's the only place where I won't be constantly scolded or criticized. I know that's not fair to my employers, but it's too much to ask for me to give up the one thing that makes me happy.

Hi winterglen, or underneath that maybe you're saying you want a job where you don't have to "escape into my imagination because it's the only place where I won't be constantly scolded or criticized" ???????
So maybe weigh up what's out there, make some phone calls about vacancies and "get a feel" of what the job and the employers are like from asking some questions/getting a bit of background. If it's easier for you write down some questions you'd like to ask first.
And if you want an easy job, there's nothing wrong with that considering the big step you'd be taking in getting into work. But just make sure the one you choose can offer you a little bit more than "easy" too. For such a big step you really deserve more whatever the job is e.g. satisfaction, contentment, fulfillment.............
And you know the references/favors you'd need to ask for aren't actually favors, you've earned those!!! Sure you need to ask for them, but just as much the people need to give them to you because you've put in the effort to deserve them!!!
But anyway, back to the scolding and criticizing!! Of course that really can't be helping you, do you want to talk a bit more about that........?
Here for you
Alison
Thanks for this!

I feel that way to, I've pretty much given up on work knowing that I probably won't be able to maintain any job I might get (since pretty much every time I have gotten a job I have been let go after only a short amount of time).
