I'm not the girly girl type and my family is on my case about it. I'd rather attend sporting events than go to the mall. I don't care about clothes and make up.My older sister use to be a beauty queen and my mom would always compare me to her. My sister might have had the looks. But has a nasty attitude still and now is ugly on the outside to like she is on the inside.I think i'm a decent person and that should count more than looks. At times i think about changing my looks to please them. But i'm happy wearing jeans and a baseball shirt.

Hi Again UCLA --

It's hard when a family can't accept us the way we are. Even when we break away from unsupportive family, they live on in our heads.

I'm sorry to hear that you're having such a rough time.

I've always found that look to be kind of sexy. Guess I like the natural look better than a woman loaded up with makeup and jewelry.

Hey UCLA! Welcome to the tom boy club LOL! I use to think that "Pretty" girls were real women? Nah I know a real woman is a woman in her heart not on her shoulders!

Be proud of who you are!

Hang in there. My stepsister is 13 years older than I am, was a sorority sister, married out of college, had 4 beautiful children, whole nine yards. My stepmother was on my case too as I don't care for makeup, get my hair "styled" (went to the barber shop with my husband last time :-) once every year or two whether it needs it or not :-) etcetera. I live in jeans also and am 56.

You're allowed to have your own preferences. It's unfortunate your family is on your case and you feel you have to change occasionally to get them off it and get a rest from it for a bit :-) I think it will get better for you when you're more off on your own. I didn't fit in with the other girls either, carried my school books like a "boy" (by my side instead of in front of my chest) and other things.

Hi,

I used to be a tomboy, too. My mother despaired of ever seeing me in a dress outside of church. I lettered in track, volleyball and basketball and loved every second of it. I loved to hike and the forest was my safe haven.

Eventually though, I took more of an interest in my appearance and slowly adapted to wearing makeup and nice suits and dresses.

Now I wear jeans year round except in summer. I get so hot I wear skirts, whiter than white legs and all! lol!

Be yourself. Everything will fall in place.

Jan

UCLAFan, you sound as though you have a good head on your shoulders. Be whomever you want to be and hold your head up high.

The older we get, people's inner beauty becomes more & more attractive, anyway. That's what truly matters.

Try not to compare yourself to your sister.......I know that is quite challenging, but it is the worst thing you can do.

P.S. Sports ROCK!!!!

UCLA,

I had a t shirt from my church. I didn't realize how much I wore it all the time until my friends could tell me the initials on the front of it without looking at it! lol!!

When you get out of school you may have a working environment that forces you to change your style of dressing and you'll be fine. You might change on your own and create a combination look all your own.

In the meantime, enjoy being you. After all, there is only one you in the entire world!

Hugs,

Jan
