The high school I am teaching at is looking for an advisor for their SAVE club...Students Against Violence Everywhere club. I am wondering if now is the time for me to use my past to help others. I feel burdened for the school's population, but am I ready?
Thanks for this!

That sounds like a very honorable advisorship to take on. The only one who can answer your question is YOU

Are you able to handle your triggers well? Do you have a safe outlet to use when certain things come up that feel overwhelming? Will there be good support for you to go to when you need it? I would think those would be valid questions to help you decide if you are ready.

If you decide that you might have difficulty running the program, is there an option for an assistant advisor? And most importantly, what does your gut tell you? I'm a huge believer in listening to my gut instincts as they have never steered me wrong

I wish you well whatever decision you make!

SW, I agree, it is a decision you will have to look at and reflect on adn ask yourself if you are ready adn able. But, I have faith that you will make the right choice for yourself...make it for you, with your safety in mind and then look to help others.
I remember when I was in EMT training. The repeated phrase and teaching that was drilled into us was, "You must look to your OWN safety first! If you are in an unsafe situation, an injured or dead EMT cannot save others!!"
I have found this to fit very well with my helaing here too. Many prayers and safe hugs.....
Be honest with yourself and do not let others push you into something you are not ready for....but if you feel lead to and only holding back due to fear, maybe reevaluate where the feelings are coming from and how you are triggered....much support!!

I think if you can emotionally manage it (and time manage it, etc) that you should do it. But only you know if you're ready to do it, but I think sometimes if we ask the question that we probably are - it just may be out of your comfort zone.
