are body memories trustworthy?
i've never had s*x before, in a conscious non-dissociated state, that is. so honestly i wouldn't know how it felt.
at least i know what triggered some inside this time. that way i can avoid it.
but damn....
"down there" hurts...i keep getting flashes...
can i trust them to be real?

p.s sorry i'm posting so much lately..

Dear Violetsareblue,,, it's been my experience that the body does have it's own memories, both in the muscle and bone, and in the brain. your conscious mind may not have access to these memories. BUT, having said that, i also notice that what i imagine deeply will be reflected in my body sensations. so, if you have felt threatened with inappropriate sexual attentions for a long time, you might feel just as if it had actually happened~! i hope you can find a way to sink into the body awareness and determine where these sensations are coming from... DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy = Mind Body Talking) is one way to train the mind to notice things, or some kinds of meditation, or for some people, yoga will work. best wishes,, keep us posted,, Gus

i think body memories can alert you to something not feeling right, but i don't think they are 100% reliable indicators that an event did/did not happen.

if you are in pain, maybe you should see a doctor? i recently got diagnosed with a hereditary disorder that was causing me pain, when my T was happy to dismiss it as a result of previous abuse.

I would say YES, only because your body doesn't go into denial your body is...

Violet, I have learned ( with myself) that the Body Memories are more trustworthy than my mental images. My problem is learning what the feelings are and why I am feeling them.
I started, about a year ago, having pain "down there" after several years of marriage...it then started some flashes and now I know what and why...it is better now that I have "seen" it.
I ahve several thousands of $$ worth of Dr and hospital bills, because I ahd no idea or knowledge of body memories...I can ussually tell, now, which are real in the present and which are from the past...but, as new ones come I have to look hard to see what it is.
I am sorry you are having trouble and I hope you find the answers you need as you are able to deal with them.

recent development..took a nap this afternoon (wasn't in a good way this morning, was/am sick, slept most of the morning and afternoon until around 3:30), woke up and was having really vivid body memories accompanied by vivid flashes.
made me feel ill.
maybe it was just from dreaming (although I don't remember having any dreams during the nap), but it felt very real and my body reacted on its own...like moving and stuff....
Thanks for this!

Violet, take a deep breath....it is a good thing, but doesn't feel like it. Sounds like you are having a memory surface. It is good to remind yourself that you are safe in the present and that you are going to be ok...if you can. When I age regress in the memories, I can only remember to get my husband, he knows what to do. I am unable to think as an adult when it happens.
Do you have a T? Maybe give them a call...this is something they can help you get through adn process so you get the best healing from it.
Many safe hugs and do not forget to breath. We tend to breath very shallow breaths or hold our breath during these times. This causes increased muscle tension. Cry if you feel the need to. But look at what your seeing ( flashes) and focus on the feelings, it is the only way they really subside....when we see them, feel them and accept them as truth.
