I got hairbrained idea to email my Dad and to ask him to STOP calling me a shortened version of my real name, it is NOT my name and I really hate it a lot but have basically not said anything for the past 3 years it has bothered me. ONCE i hit the send button I had this feeling of fear and dread rise up in my soul, and I laid down for a bit to think about things and it has occurred to me that I have put myself in the position I used to always put myself in years ago, and that since learned until now not to do , and that is to make myself emotionally vulnerable to him and any criticism anger hemight show, NOW HE KNOWS how i feel and I am frightned as i[ve been very successful in learning howto hide my deepest feelings from him always, since teen years, I am so afraid now even tho i know Im an adult and this is my right to ask to be called by my name not some stupid shortened version. I SO wish I could take thatemail back now i just wait with anxiety as i';ve beena ble to protect myself from being emotinally hurt by him for a long time and NOW i just opeend the door and welcomed him right back in. I am so so confused why i did this.

I didn't know this either, but in the regular normal world, apparently people do demand what name they want to be called by, and other people obey it. Not that it ever happened for me. My mother refused to call me by my first name. It was always, "The Baby". Twelve years old, and I was still the baby. It was just alienating, and I still don't like my name. Sometimes I will call a friend (or T) by a nickname I make up, and I am truly surprised by how offended they get - "that's not my name!". I could never decide MY name, what gives THEM the right? I guess it's in the normal people constitution or something. Good for you, you are claiming your rights! I for one am proud of you, (insert FULL NAME here).

Hey Kpeace, I'm sorry you are feeling distressed right now. What is the worst thing that could happen with this? This probably triggered up a bunch of kid feelings in you? I think that we are drawn to resolving our issues and this is a way for you to resolve this if you work through it. Remember you are safe okay.

Yay~! Kmb~! it's a rite of passage to be called what you want, even by your parents. and to stand up and say so, says you have passed that mark into true adulthood, i think... congrats,, Gus
