I think we all know that feeling of total disconnect with our bodies. Mixed with a repulsion and feelings of inside rottenness. Well, at least I do.
That all changed for me about a week ago when I had an abdominal ultrasound done. These things are completely non-invasive and real time. I was able to watch the entire procedure on the computer screen. I got to see my liver, my kidneys, my heart. It was a doppler ultrasound so I was also able to watch my blood perfuse these organs. It was amazing! Totally utterly amazing! It made me realize that my body isn't rotten on the inside, it isn't horribly flawed. It is a beautiful, glorious operating entity. Everything was just perfect. "Textbook" the technician said. I could not believe it, but there were the data right in front of me. Nothing rotten, nothing grotesque, just a body. My body. Working perfectly. Sure I have scars, sure I have wounds, but my body is there with me, working for me and not against me. It's with me. When I think of what all this now glorious body has gone through and to see it still work, still glow in that computer screen. Well, I have to say, talk about a sea change. It may not be for everyone, but THIS is the thing that tipped the scale for me. Peace.
