If you tell your T that you were sexually abused by someone when you were a child and that person is still alive, does your t have to report it to the proper authorities? like what if that person is around children or something?

or does your T have to keep your info confidential?

If you told your therapist you thought this person was abusing a child then he or she would have to report it to authorities. Other than that I don't think they generally report anything.

I asked my T to list different scenarios that he'd have to report and what he wouldn't, and that helped because he said what I needed to hear. It varies by state.

Okay, that helps. Thanks guys. I'm just very reluctant to talk if she's going to go to the authorities. I'm not up for that at all. I'll shut up in a second.

Im in colorado and here the T only has to report if more children are in danger. So if my abuser had children living with him/ her and i knew THEY were being abused. Or if i were going to abuse or hurt myself ir someone else T is obligated to do something.
