**Potential trigger for those who trigger with church, and church related issues...with very little detail.

I had very little memory of my childhood and pre-teen years. However, I've always had very fond memories of a little church, and then later christian school (on work scholarship), that I attended in Hawaii, Ko'olau Baptist Church.

The church was near the military base, so while many local community members attended, so did many of the military there.

Several members of this church "family" adopted me as their own. I had a "mom, dad, aunts, uncles and MANY brothers, sisters, and cousins". They all helped to save me. I have so many fond memories looking at this photograph of a place where I spent every single day for almost two years...every day I was attending school, church, or functions where I was usually singing. I was 12 & 13 years old and felt so much older. Every day that little van pulled up to pull me from hell.

Wow, looking back, how thankful I am to have had that. I'm so glad I can "mix" the good with the bad at times now.

Thanks for reading.

KD

I've been to Millilani and worked there for a week where the airforce base is. I'm glad you had a rescue of sorts.

That sounds like a great place full of great people. Even in situations that are intolerable you know there are people that love you out there. What a blessing.

It is a blessing that you had a safe haven to go to. The photo shows how beautiful it is there. I am glad it has brought happy memories; as we all seem to struggle with finding them. Thanks for sharing.
