I go to a local mental health clinic. Today I saw where they had a job posting for a secretary. My step-mom (and abuser) as a a secretary until 2008 and since then she's been job less. I'm so afraid she'll apply and get the job. I don't want her to see my records or know I go there. I feel sick right now.

If you have a therapist or therapy group, bring up your fear there.

You could also find out if there are firewalls so employees cannot see your records.

But in another way this could be an opportunity to explore your feelings of vulnerability with a T or support group. It is not so significant that there is a slim chance she would get the job as how vulnerable you feel.

The community liasons are available to PM if you feel like you need more help.

Glad to offer an idea. Hope things feel a little calmer.

One thing that helps me is to do a worst case scenario. What is the worse thing that could happen if all your worst fears came true. Someone could abuse you verbally but you have survived that before. Of course if this exercise just gets you more anxious, don't continue it.

Maybe talk to your pdoc about it. Maybe if he knows the name he'll block the person from being hired.

I can see how this could be frightening. Do you have to interact with your step-mom much? That would be really tough for me if I was around my abuser a lot. Hopefully, what ever reason your step-mom hasn't had a job for a while would also keep her from applying and getting the job at your pdoc. Maybe she doesn't want to work and wouldn't apply or maybe she has a terrible attitude that comes across during interviews. Good luck and keep talking (posting) to people. It helps me to know I have support.
