I've had an echocardiogram a while ago and was very uncomfortable with the doctor's behaviour, but since that was my only time having one I don't know if the way he acted was normal medical standard and I just overreacted, or if it was sexual misconduct. I've been thinking a lot about it since, so if anyone could help me get clarity I'd really appreciate it

I have had several and with some performed by females as well as by males. It is not unusual for the doc or technician to use motions feeling like some kind of massage or even groping, and that has to do with their need to get everything just right before snapping the next picture. The same kind of thing happens for me when my eye doc or one of his techs takes certain pictures of the insides of my eyes. Even though there is no physical contact involved there, one tech once explained to me that it is like groping around in the mud while trying to find the best angle for snapping a picture in the dark.

Yeah I can see that being a problem for that test. They never had a doctor do mine it was in the hospital done by a ultra-sound tech. Next time request a woman. I'm not saying he done anything wrong but if you are still fixating on it that's not a good feeling.
I hope all was good with your heart.

I wished I'd had some kind of knowledge going into this test on what to expect. I understand why it bothered you. During the test, I'd tense, pull away, and eventually ended up just shaking and crying until it was done. It feels unexpectedly violating for a picture of your heart (also painful, I genuinely thought I'd have deep bruises by how hard he was pushing that darn wand). I had the same thought -- was he taking advantage because I'm a much younger than normal client or was it just medical necessity but kudos to you for voicing the question I couldn't. Unfortunately, it seems like this is just the way the test goes.

But thank you for bringing it up and I hope you can find some healing and closure from this and I, too, hope your results went well.
