I've been very concerned about my brother. He is fighting alcoholism and he is so young (21). My mother recently told me about incidences in which my dad beat him so badly that skin came off of him. I have no idea how to reach him because he is not concious of his pain. He is mad at the world and depressed. Any ideas on how to reach him? Has anyone ever done a real intervention?

Just be there for him. Healing starts from within, and when he's ready, his support system will be critical ....
Make sure he knows and feels and breeds your love. And be ready for when he's ready. When forced treatments are done (like detox, etc) the person relapses a whole lot more than when they have made the choice of getting better. gab

Love him, love him, love him. But also make sure you love yourself. It may sound selfish, but you have to make sure you are your top priority. If you don't take care of you, you won't be fit to help someone else anyway. Good luck!
