I've realised I've held a belief that I can never be happy unless I can make my dad love me. Now I've realised I truly can't change anyone nor make them do anything they don't want to do. And I'm deciding I can be happy even if he never changes!! That's just one part of my life - he didn't love me, and I'm sad about that - but what he did doesn't have to define my whole life! I choose to put my focus and energy on things that do make me happy

Thanks for this!

I'm happy for you

I've come to the realisation that neither of my parents loved me (or maybe I'm being "unfair" ..."how dare I speak to (about) my father like that"

I do have some empathy for the MU (maternal unit) as although she hurt me even more than the PU did, she was probably emotionally abused by him

Anyway thank you for sharing

Forgive me if I am out of line, but when was the last time that you talked to your Dad? Sometimes kids stop talking to a parent or parents stop talking to their kid because of anger or misunderstandings.
