Is there a place on this site where I can get help with self-esteem?

I was abused throughout my life and I want to begin to feel like a strong confident independant person.

If you go to this link then on the bottom there are links to other articles
How To Raise Your Self-Esteem

I hope you find some help there. There are other good articles on psychcentral

Sometimes changing your circumstances might help with raising your self esteem. You can’t change past abusive situations but you are in charge of a current situation. Your self esteem and self worth might be suffering due to your current circumstances
Thanks for this!

I'll check out that link. Thank you for all your help!

I have to think about my kids. I have to put them first. They've already been through so much. They wouldn't understand. It's too messy.
Thanks for this!

I can totally relate with you. I was reading an article last night about Emotional Parentification, and although I don't believe I've crossed that line, myself, it was a reminder to keep aware of my self-esteem, emotional baggage, and my children's happiness.

I'll take a peek at that link, as well.
Thanks for this!

What I've found very helpful is treating myself like a good friend. I never call a friend stupid and lazy. So I shouldn't talk to myself that way. I need to be more empathetic with myself.

I made a vow a long time ago, to never say anything(outloud) or in my head.......negative about myself....what we think or say goes into our minds and we tend to believe it.. It takes a little practice, but can be done. There is a whole world of negativity out there, and we should never disrespect ourselves.
Thanks for this!

It's so subliminal for me. Sometimes it's not even words. I just get a bad feeling in my gut and I try and hold it there. I let that sick pit in my gut feeling wash over my body until it burns in my chest.

Reading Six Pillars of Self Esteem. Finding out that it is a very broad subject. Finding out there are areas of self esteem where I actually excel (as well as areas I need lots of work on)! So all is not lost.

I am actually good at being self aware and self accepting, hence why I am spending time in theae forums.

Where I struggle is self assertion.
