I am new to the boards! I have been wondering if anyone has heard of working the steps to stop self harming? My therapist thought it might help me stop cutting if i worked The steps.

I believe it could I have used the 12 steps in my life. The first for drinking and NA . I still am not drinking after 23 yrs it can be applied ti relationships, work and even PTSD. What I found out though is it hasn't helped with my addiction to psych drugs. This is a problem for the health system needs to start public self help and support for some these drugs have changed who they were and now who they are for life even if you get clean from a psych drug it has already changed who u were so there is no feeling of freedom like with alcohol u were it's slave.

Welcome...

12 steps can be used for anything. Just replace "addiction" "alcoholism" and the words you would see to what fits like "self harming", etc. We always say this during meetings
"it works if you work it and work it 'cause you're worth it."
Won't hurt to try.

The 12 steps never helped me. They are like some complicated foreign concept. They are negative and lowering to self esteem. All you need to do is find God.

In my case the 12 steps have worked amazingly well. I believe if you worked them fully it would help with cutting too .. Good luck ..

the 12 steps is not a miracle solution ... you have to work on you believes and your thoughts. All your reality is related to your believes and your thoughts. If you harm yourself it is because you reject yourself. you are a miracle ... get it? if you start loving yourself and choose yourself you will stop harming yourself. you have to realsize that you enter this world alone and you will leave this world alone. The best person you can ever met is you! Your goal in life is to learn how to know yourself and love yourself. I was harming myself... cuz I was rejecting me. I used to hate myself but I'm my best friend! I want to get MY approbatioin not the one of other **** that! Your selfestim must come from your evaluation not the one of other. If you come to a point where you love yourself you will stop harming it. Trust me. you are the most important person to your own self. ok?
