Ok so I took the plunged and shaved down under. I used shaving cream for women that is suppose to prevent a rash..etc. I have a rash from shaving and it itches.

What should I use to make the itch and the rash go away?

So much for that shaving cream. I'm not sure myself what works best, but here's some advice from a site I Googled on the topic:

Next time, sit in warm water 5-10 minutes before shaving. Always use new and good blade. Make sure to buy a good after shave lotion or cream. (I realize you thought you'd done this last one, but it's what was advised, so I'm just including it with the info.)

Someone on another site suggested rubbing conditioner on the hairs before shaving, then use an exfoliating scrub and rub it into your skin after shaving. After your shower, use a deodorant on the area (there are ones specifically for this purpose).

On that same site, someone said to simply hold a "really warm cloth" on the area "for a bit." The heat prevents the redness, and this person said she has sensitive skin and it works for her.

Also, if you keep doing it, the itching will reduce over time.

I always put lotion on that area after I shave.

Also, I always shave WITH the grain. And if at the last minute, I want a close shave, go against the grain only once. My doctor gave me that advice when I asked her once. She said going against the grain a bunch of times could irritate the skin.

Use a nice razor - those cheap bic ones always irritated my skin.

I'm not really sure about the shaving cream, since I always just use soap and water. But using soap and water, those three things work for me.

Hope that helps.

Shaving 'down there' makes me feel queasy, I did it when I was younger and it was just so itchy where the hairs get cut sharp. Waxing is far better in my opinion.

I did use savalon or germaline to help the rash, I don't know whether it's advisable, but it soothed it a little for me.

I'm not confident enough to go get down under waxed. The thought of having another women that close to my private parts with hot wax bothers me.

I will stay with trimming and shaving......and hope for the best.

i'm a shaver, i just feel better that way, freer in all essence..haha. anyway, always use shaving cream or you'll get in grown hairs, as far as the itching, that's normal when it's growing back, and it might be irritated if you scratching it. try not to. if it's real irritating put some sensitive lotion on it, but keep it away from your va jay jay because the lotion might irritate that.

Cheap hair conditioner (think "Suave balsam and protein") is excellent as a shaving lotion for the body. If you keep up with the shaving, your skin will get used to it and the itching and irritation will decrease.

After the itchy bumpy rash went away I now have red flat spots (kinda like if you have had a cut and the skin is healing...that sorta red flat spots).

Has anyone else experienced this? What do you do to heal the skin faster?

You could try a Tea Tree Lotion helps stops the burn and irration after shaving & waxing but be warned it smells like a dog flea rinse, so not so good if you are on your way out.

I'm using Nivea shaving cream for Men with senstive skin for my under arms and it's working a treat.

Hey, I have an idea, but I'd call a gyno first. Vagisil makes these medicated wipes (you can also get the creams) that treat itch (generally, of yeast infection), but also has several vitamins to sooth irritated skin. Your gyno can tell you if they're safe for the itch from shaving.

You could try a cortisone cream next time also.

But the advice here was great. Don't shave against the grain!

Shaving against the grain.........

My hair down under is straight not curly. What exactly do you mean by shaving against the grain? Do I shave upwards or downwards?

With the grain means you should shave in the direction of the hair growth. It does mean that you won't get as close shave, but it's also a lot less irritating to the skin.
Thanks for this!
