I knew it! All the time I see these girls trying to get their curves to go away and to be as thin as possible. Well....I knew I kept my curves for a reason
Thanks for this!

I don't want my curves to go away, I just want them to be smaller. -_-

When I was in HS, I always had to get a size larger in pants, because my legs where very un-proportional to the rest of my body. Mainly because I was so athletic, but then you get old, become lazy, and all that muscle goes away.

I always have to get larger pants... than make them smaller in the waist. It is pain in the butt... when I get jeans to fit me on my hips, I have about five extra inches in the waist and it's just not becoming.

Other than that, I love my curves.

thats why they make 'hipsters' - jeans that sit on your hips

I have the same problem with jeans. I'm about 5'9'' and do have big hips and a big butt. Which I think is a good thing lol but apparently most retailers think you should be shaped like a popsicle stick. So to get jeans that are long enough and big enough for my hips, they are huge around my waist.

My friend suggested apple bottome jeans. They are specifically made for curvy women and have more room around the hips without having huge waists. (they're more targeted towards black women so I might look a little out of place but oh well lol)

Low rise jeans have a 'waist band' that sits on your hips. E.g.,

http://www.couturecandy.com/store/as...geneva-fnt.jpg

You can get 'low rise' and 'even lower rise' etc so after some hunting (a lot of it typically) you can find some that sit firmly on the widest part of your hips.

I'm a fan of that kind of style. If you get the flare and length just right then they can look great IMHO. Great for curvy people. Nice line from the wide hips to the narrow knees (if they are fitting) then the flare out again kind of mirrors the shoulders so curves curves all the way.

Another virtue of low rise is that your hips don't vary as much as your waist with meals and periods and the like. Super comfy.

:-)

I had an easier time buying this style (low rise / hipster / bumster flare or bootcut) in the midwest than I do in Australia (where it seems to be skinny jeans all the way). I personally don't think that skinny jeans look right on ANYBODY. But then I really don't have a desire to look malnourished and there it is...

Yeah, I had that idea. Apparently though, when you go to a HBCU, and your white.....the possibility of getting yelled at, hit, or being called Alicia Keys, goes up about 99%. Thus I only wore them once, and decided that yeah, don't do that again.

Something that used to really bother me was that according to retailers if you need a larger size shirt, that apparently you should have huge boobs too....not that I have a problem with that anymore though.

Wow really? That happens here sometimes in Carbondale. I get some pretty racist comments about being white (which sounds really weird to say lol).

I want to go and check it out but I'll have to ask a black friend to go with me haha. So I don't feel so out of place. Hey, Kisha....wanna go shopping?! lol
