Agreed! I'm currently taking tylenol extra strength regularly to avoid the excruciating pain of cramps.

I used to get really bad cramps but then kind of outgrew them. They haven't been a problem for me, since I was about 27 and I'm 41. I just get reall bad constipation right before my period starts. Isn't it fun being female.

Does anyone really like having cramps? lol... No, but the past 3 days have been excruciating for me. Sometimes I can't move. They stop me from doing anything physical. Although I did hear that excercise helps cramps. I hate it when I feel like I have to poop but then I can't. Ugh so annoying and very uncomfortable. I'm just glad my period is regular now that I'm off birth control.

Agreed cramps suck. I take Midol, wait 4 hours take Ibubrofen (can't spell), Midol, ..... Heating pad if I can stand it. And hope that I don't double over from the pain at an in opportune time, like at work. "thank you" endometriosis and polysystic ovarian syndrome for the "wonderful" cramps.
Nupoet64 - never heard of pickle juice helping. I may have to try it. |

I only notice the cramps when I'm not getting PMT related moodswings, like I either have the emotional side effects OR the physical. I guess I'm lucky they don't come at once
Cramps are not nice at all. Mine start with back and leg pain, and tiredness, and then I get them in my abdomen soooo badly. I usually take paracetemol, a hot water bottle and license to whinge. __________________ What if you slept? And what if in your sleep you dreamed?

My cramps are so bad the doctor prescribed a muscle relaxer. I have had to take them on and off since I was 12. I am 43 now. I hate them.

I get the moodswings and emotional crap with the cramps. I wonder how my boyfriend puts up with me during that week. HMMMM - Maybe that's why he's out riding bike with the kids while I stay home to deal with pain.

I used to get really severe cramps where I would vomit a lot, not be able to stand, and would get hot flashes, etc. I eventually went on birth control pills to stop it and they've worked wonders for me. I still get minor cramps, but medications actually help, unlike before.

What are tips to deal with cramps other than pain killers? Which is fastest way to relief?

You can try taking magnesium supplements, those reduce cramps. Also, about 4-5 days before your period, begin taking your pain medicine (the midol or aleve or whatever). This helps it start to build up in your system and block the pain better. Exercise also helps, and a heating pad.

cardio hydration Or all in quick succession. Works great, completely eliminating mild cramps - I have never had really bad cramps. The WORST thing is sitting, because there is no blood circulation in the pelvic area. So at least walk! |

I take a medication for sleep called Elavil. It is an old tricyclic AD, not much in use as an AD, but is in use in small, non-AD doses, for muscle relaxation and consequently better sleep, for migraine prevention, for chronic pain relief. very cheap without insurance - need a prescription from a doctor. Trying searching the web to see if anyone has used it for cramps. The generic name is Amitriptyline.
