I hate clothes shopping with a passion, so I tend to put it off for as long as possible. Well I finally decided that I could no longer put off shopping, largely because my last pair of casual pants suddenly ripped up the inside thigh. So I headed off to addition elle and bought 3 pairs of casual pants, and decided that since I was there I might as well get new undergarments too. My bras were at least 2 -3 years old (can't remember exactly when I bought them) and all the elastic was gone from them, and they basically weren't providing much in the way of support anymore. So I bought a couple of new bras in the proper size and ladies I look like a new woman. With support my breasts are positively perky, well perhaps boulder like is a better description since I'm a D, but at least they're now proudly high and not sagging down around my elbows. I also think it makes me look thinner, since you can now actually see my figure as opposed to slouchy lumpy bumps.

So if you need a good pick me up (pun intended) go buy a new bra.

I had forgotten the importance of a good bra until went shopping the other day too for new ones, well over due. Great new shape and clothes look so much better. I feel better too in the support and how I look. What a difference.
Thanks for this!

Ha! Yeah, I definitely need to do some serious bra shopping. I'll tell you my sad story, though. Both my boobs were greatly bruised when I was in a car wreck on Saturday--victims of the air bag--so I'm wearing my loosest bras at the moment. I was planning to schedule my yearly mammogram--but, boy, howdie, I'm putting THAT off for awhile! Thanks for the "uplifting" advice!

Payne1, I'd avoid a mammo like the plague if I were you too. How are you doing? To cause that much bruising, are you ok?

I hope you are okay Payne1, and that your boobs heal up fast!

The only place I can find that carries the size I need in the store is Nordstrom. If anyone knows where 32DD is stocked in store I would love to hear about it! I need new work bras because I really don't feel like wearing sexy bras with cleavage while bending over a bed performing an IV. The dads might like the view though.... But its worth looking for the right size because the right bra makes everything look better!

It's been said that the right undergarments make the whole outfit. This is so true! If I could just get my Mom to shake loose with some cash in order to buy herself some decent bras! She's absolutely stunning at 70, but she wears old, worn-out bras that are not only not supportive, but they make her breasts look downright weird! Oh, she would die if she knew I were posting this - Attention Mom! Buy yourself some bras that are in your proper size!

I think I'll take her to Nordstrom's and get her a proper fitting. Evidently, up to 80% or more of us women don't wear the proper size. I was wearing the wrong size for years - I would buy a larger band size in order for the cups to fit and then I would be pulling the bra down all day.

My favorite bra is Dream Lace Tisha by Le Mystere (Nordstroms). This is a full-cut bra, but it is still feminine. In this bra I wear a 32F and it is so comfortable!
I actually buy mine new with tags on Ebay for about $40.00! http://www.barenecessities.com/Le-My...Mystere965.htm

Another really nice bra that is a demi tee-shirt bra is made by Chantelle and the style is called Rive Gauche. You can probably buy them at a discount on Ebay.

Best bra: Dream Lace Tisha by Le Mystere. You will love it! Can you tell I love bras? During a manic phase, I bought 24 bras. I wear exactly two. I'm sure my pdoc has heard it all - he didn't even roll his eyes. He just said, "Take this and I'll see you next week. Oh, and by the way give your money and credit cards to your Mom". Hugs, Laurie

I got this in an email from my mother-in-law the other day, and I thought it was too funny.

A friend is like a good bra:
Hard to Find...
Supportive....
Comfortable ...
Always Lifts You Up...
Never Lets You Down, or Leaves You Hanging,
And Is Always Close To Your Heart!!!

Never thought I'd be talking about my mammary glands on a public forum. My two sweeties are now turning yellow, as the bruises are breaking up. Alas, my body is "vertically-challenged," so the air bag damage was worse. When air bags first came out, short drivers often had their necks broken, and the doctors were still concerned enough to x-ray my neck to make sure. They also gave me an EKG, for fear my heart was also bruised.

My bra size fits into the "normal range," anyway. Bras are definitely not a one-size-fits-all deal. Pardon my wicked sense of humor, but why is it that men never have to tell THEIR male "statistics"? "Small, medium, and large"? Note: NO MAN EVER SEEMS TO GET THE "SMALL"! HA! I know because I've gone shopping in that department for the three males in my family.
Thanks for this!

I hate buying bras so when I find a good one I keep it until it basically busts. Seems like everywhere I go they are have so much damn padding! I am a full C and the last thing I want is something making my boobs bigger and more noticeable. I think most of mine are from Victoria's Secret. They're expensive but they last FOREVER!!!

Payne - glad you're ok, from the accident, even if you have bad bruising. Hate to tell you this but the bruising and pain is going to last a long time. I was in an almost head on collission at the end of June and my airbags deployed, between that and the seatbelt straps, my breasts and chest took a really hard hit. I was black purple and yellow and in pain for about a month before I fully healed. One thing that helped - get a large size bag of frozen peas or corn and put that on your chest - it's the right shape that it won't roll off if you're leaning back in your chair. when it thaws just put it back in the freezer and refreeze - just make sure you know which package it is so you don't accidentally cook it.

this thread reminds me of my mom taking my sister and I shopping...she would say very loudly in the store "DO YOU NEED ANY BRAS? I don't think you're getting enough support!!" God, I was so mortified. LOL

I hate shopping and I hate bras in particular. I think that I like Bali. It has been years since I've bought a bra. It is time, and my daughter was going shopping anyway so I was going to have her pick me up a few. When I went in last time, I was professionally sized, the bras fit well but the problem is that they have been washed so many times that I cannot make out anything on the tags, not the size, brand, nothing! So now I'm going to have to go in myself. :-(

Yeah, I don't like shopping for that stuff either. I have social phobia too, which makes it even worse.

I went to Dillards and had a bra fitting the other day. Tried on every bra in the store...nothing fit. Went to Target, tried on bras in the size the lady had measured me. Mom suggested I go have custom bras made..yeah cause I have money for that. Sorry, I'm better now. Just frustrated.

I had to laugh when I saw this thread....I just went through this! I have been running (I run about 50 miles a week) with regular sports bras you can buy at walmart. I was always wondering why my breasts were so sore. Well, I bought one of those expensive "high impact" sports bras and suddenly realized why my breasts were always sore! They did not have the support they needed for running lol. I am a 40D so I should have known better!
But I do agree, it is amazing when you find a good bra and you feel like you have a new body again!

Splitimage, your post made me smile and lol.

I know I need to go shopping soon, but it's so much of a hassle. Not to mention if I'm going up ANOTHER size, well I won't be able to shop at my regular store (La Senza). And that would really suck...
