I was so scared and nervous and awkward and embarassed and uncomfortable.

I had to go to the doc because my period is so awful (i get so dizzy and faint a lot) but I now havent even had it for 6 months. So she decided to do an exam.

I understand that she's just trying to find out whats wrong, but I was shaking so bad, she started to get annoyed. I was so glad when it was over until she told that she had to take blood too. D:

Anyways, I was wondering what was your first pelvic exam like?

((bluegirl?)) - sorry you were very upset and felt the doctor was annoyed. My 1st experience was scary and embarrassing - not any fault of the doctor and I was very shy. I later became more comfortable and realized its simply a medical necessity we all have to do in order to be healthy.

Next time tell your doctor beforehand how nervous you feel and see what suggestions she has to make you more comfortable. For doctors this is just a job, the same as intestinal doctors. At this point in my life, I view it something that will keep me healthy but when I was young, I hated it - so I validate your feelings. I hope it will be better next time and thinking its just medical helps.

During my first pelvic exam, the ob gyn praised me for being able to relax so well. I did not try. Hard though, it just happened.

oh god it was horrible. I went to planned parent hood because I didn't have much money.
There were so many unsavory folks there because of the neighborhood it was in.

But I cried the whold time. I took a preg. test and the nurse wanted to know if I thought I could be preg. I said yes. She didn't understand. The dates simply did not line up. When she asked why I though I was preg. I burst into tears and told her I HAD SEX. (That's all it takes right.) I thought she was trying to guilt trip me. So we went into the exam room and I got undressed and wrapped w. the lovely paper towel. (what a usless invention) Except being the first time I'd ever done this I wrapped up like you would after you got out of the shower. The nurse came in an laughed and I was crying so hard I couldn't understand how the towel was supposed to go. She just said here hold up your arms and she fixed it for me.

The guy I had sex w/ told me that I might feel dirty or violated after sex. No one told me I would feel this way after a gyno exam. It was so embarrasing. People shouldn't be playing around down there. I don't love to go to the gyno but it is better then the dentist.

Hugs to everyone! It seems like your first exam is scary and tough. I was lucky in a weird way.

I went to planned parenthood because I was 17 and although my mother had signed a release for me to be treated by my doctor without my mom being there I was terrified that the doctor might mention, in passing, that I had been there which would have tossed me into the fire so to speak.

I made the appointment and ironically my boyfriend's ex girlfriend went with me. She showed me how to drape the paper sheet and held my hand and told me a story about a lost dog. To this day I can recount the whole story (that was almost 12 years ago). I didn't really even notice the doctor.

Awesome story telling props to the ex girlfriend though. Every "ok expect a pinch, pressure, or whatever" was immediately followed by a turn of events in the story. Before I knew it, it was all over. I put my clothes on and asked the ex girlfriend what happened to the dog in the end. Turned out, the dog never existed. She made the entire thing up. She and I are still friends.

I got my first one at college. It was scary. My doctor was really kind. But it ended up hurting so much, though after not during. I felt like someone had taken my uterus and dug their fingers into it. It hurt really bad.

I always cramp and bleed for a couple of days after my exam. I've been told it's totally normal (although wildly unpleasant).

mine hurt so bad and I cried and the doctor told me that it wasnt that bad and said I might have a little spotting. I was so scared when I went to the bathroom and had a pad completely soaked.

That is super sweet, agreed. I have a lot of respect for people who can handle their exes (and in your case, even an ex' new gf) in such a civilized fashion. Big props to her.
