you poor girl.... i know how you feel i have got my smear in march , i have to have them every 6mths and it still scares the hell out of me , but try to think of it like this , nurse,s see hundreds and thousands of ladies every day, they know that people are scared one way or the other, maybe you could say some positive things to your self, about how it is so important that we get checked inside as well as outside , sorry , hope all goes well, am sending you lots of hugs and peace x

10 years is a long time to go without a PAP smear, even in a mutually monogamous relationship. You really need to have it done. Think of it as going to see your dentist. Just something that needs to be done, even though it might be unpleasant.
Thanks for this!

I have never found a PAP smear enjoyable, but still it is necessary. I have to go every 6 months too. Somethings just are not pleasant, so I just grit my teeth and get through them. Partly I guess it is because it seems like such a violation and fro me it hurts a little. Fortunately it is over pretty quick. I just try to tell myself that thousands of women have them done every day and the get through it, so can I. I am glad your husband will be with you. I would love to have the man I trust the most in my life with me too. Not his thing though.

I guess I do not really have an easy answer, -- Just to assure you that it will be all right. Hugs and I really wish you the best

Hi Asphyxia - Did you take the Valium? Did it help?

I am facing the same fears, but I don't have anyone to go with me. Actually, I'm so ashamed of that kind of appointment that I don't even want anyone to know where I'm going. I'm having a meet and greet with the doctor this week where I can express my concerns. I'm sick about the appointment and they won't even be doing anything. I've prepared a list of concerns for her which I seem to keep adding to. The nurse told me on the phone that sometimes they prescribe Valium for patients beforehand. But I worry about the way that might effect me too. Too many worries. I think this is a phobia with a touch of PTSD for me.
