Ohhh I love makeup. I just bought a book called Eye Candy and it shows you how to do 55 different styles of eye makeup. Since I own 231798739127 different colors, I have the materials to do most of them. I am having so much fun and my eyes never look the same on a daily basis. As someone who loves to create and doesn't like anything plain, I tend to see my eyelids as a type of canvas. I get very bored with any standard look of eye makeup so I'm having a great time learning how to use all types of colors in creative, unique ways.

It is Sunday morning, and I'm not really going anywhere except to Dunkin Donuts, but I just spent like 15 minutes on my eyes, lol... I see it as a form of artistic expression-- it's something I love to do.

Does anyone else looooove makeup?

Pink, my 18 year old daughter sounds like you. She has a hundred different styles of eyes she does, it seems. Especially when she goes out in the evening, she likes to put really dramatic shades on, lots of shadow! She is 18 so she can pull it off. She likes the shadows from Urban Decay, which are very youth oriented. The shadows have cool names, like Smog, Mildew, and Polyester Bride, lol. Maybe I should get her the Eye Candy book. Bet she would like it.

Oooh, I love Urban Decay (maybe not so youth oriented, as I am 27, lol). I have an Urban Decay eyeshadow set; it came in a silver case with a skull and crossbones on it, lol... The colors do have great names and they are very vibrant.

EyeCandy

Here is a link to the book. In the reviews, some people didn't like it because they thought it was geared towards younger people. In my opinion, that is a stupid reason not to like it, as if you are looking for more conservative styles, then you shouldn't have bought the book. You can tell just by the cover.

Anyway, it does give great step-by-step directions with a diagram and picture for each style. They also give info on what tools to use, what the different parts of the eye are called that you will be putting makeup onto, how to groom eyebrows, and how to put on mascara.

They are definitely some more conservative styles in there, but for the most part, the book is made for people who are not afraid of color and bold eye makeup.

yes!!!

bare essentials or another powder and good application brush,

a little blush- type color for over the apple on your cheek (the part that pops up when you smile)

and a mascara,

lipstick or lipliner and gloss ... whatever you are comfy with,

and a nice shadow duo, one for crease and one for upper lid.

for an extra neat look, a cream eyeliner - they go on so easy, with a brush that you walk across the lid, or those larger thicker pencil liners, easy on - easy off! in colors that bring out your eyes, like hazel or green eyes, use a maroon or eggplant color for a change, or dark brown with some copper effects ... oh and all the metal colors are really big right now!

You can go to a cosmetic counter at Macy's or someplace and get a make-up application - they are free, so you can see what you like on you.

You are not obliged to buy, if you don't like, don't get.

make-up is fun! and if you learn a few techniques, you can change your look a little - taking off a couple years or like celebrating something special!

have fun!

OOO I love makeup too or well I used to. I never really got that great with doing the eyes tho. I've had I guess it is a makeup make over. whatever it is called, at the department stores and they have always done wonderful things to highlight my eyes. Would always get compliments. Anyway, that was years ago when I took better care of myself. Maybe it is time I try again..

Anyway I started using "Bare Minerals" and I love it. The foundations and blush are wonderful......mascara stinks as it smears and burns. I do have several shades of eye shadows and a video to show how to use it. Will have to put this on "my list" of things to do...

I have yet to find a makeup that has satisfactory coverage for me. When under alot of stress, I still get blemishes. I drink tons of water and green tea. Basically the only beverages I drink. And I dont eat greasy foods often. Basically only when I go out to eat and that is maybe once every 2 weeks. I dont know what else causes the blemishes. I also wash my face, plain warm water no soap, each morning and evening. And if I am staying at home, I dont wear any makeup at all. I do use mostly Merle Norman makeup. Does anyone have any suggestions for a good base? My skin is combination. Got the oily and dry going on. My facial skin is a mess.. the rest of me, well I've been told its as soft as a baby's bottom lol.

there is a line called 'Make-Up Forever' that has the best coverage on the market, I think.

you might go to a counter that sells it and have a free application and see if you like it.

also, have you tried a exfoliating cleanser with antiseptic properties?

I believe philosophy has something just for your type of skin, a kit that will treat the underlying problem in the skin.

if you go to www.sephora.com, you can buy lots of good products on there, and see what they have in stock for your particular skin type.

also, the bare minerals (bare escentials) line does improve skin problems, and their other line, MD has a terrific exfoliation cleanser. (fyi)

best to you...

peace and love,
night

This might be the cause of your blemishes. Plain water will not be enough to get the oil and grease that gets into your skin during the day and night. Even if you aren't wearing makeup, there is still a lot of build up during the day because of sweat, humidity, hair on your forehead, etc.

I use AcneFree, which is a 3-step program, pretty much identical to ProActiv, but much cheaper and available in places like CVS. I only use the three steps at night. I use the acne cleanser for my face, then the astringent, then I put the acne cream over my face. It has been amazing in preventing breakouts. Right now, I am about 1 or 2 days away from starting my period and there is not one blemish on my face, whereas in the past, there would have been an entire breakout.

When I shower in the morning, I don't use the Acne Free system, as I don't want to dry out my face. Right now I'm using Neutrogena exfoliating facial scrub (grapefruit scented!) on my face in the morning. Then I put on Cetaphil moisturizer because it is completely oil-free and very good the skin. Then I put on my makeup.

So if you are looking to control the breakouts, I would suggest using something more than just water... It is good to use a cleanser and then the astringent... I find when I do this, even after I wash my face, there is still a good amount of oil/makeup that comes off on the cotton ball when I apply the astringent to my face.

I also make sure that I use oil-free makeup... Neutrogena even makes an acne control liquid foundation-- it is a foundation containing salicylic acid that works throughout the day to help stop breakouts.
Thanks for this!

Thanks for all the info! I guess I got the water thing from my sisters , thats all they ever used and they got very pretty skin. They dont even need a foundation. Guess I got blessed with all the stress and therefore, the blemishes too lol. My mom always used Oil of Olay products for her skin. She was s71 when she died and still had gorgeous skin. I've also tried the Oil of Olay cleansing pads. And they work sometimes... but not all the time. And I never use a moisturizer. Guess I figured with the oily skin I didnt need it so much? lol I'll check out the products you suggested. I was considering Proactive, but if you think that other stuff is good, I might try that too. I need something that is affordable also. Is the coverage good with the neutrogena foundation? I've got a little bit of scarring from some of the blemishes. Not alot like those with severe acne. But enough that its noticable if I dont wear any foundation or one with good coverage.

I am feeling more self concious about looking nicer since I am looking for a job again. So when I interview they arent staring at zits all the time lol.. and are able to see what I have to offer lol.

Thanks again!!!

Ok, got the Acne Free today. Just did the first routine of it. I do have to say that my skin feels nice already. I mean it feels nice and clean, and more.... taught? But not dry. I am going to try this first before I get the other stuff. See if it helps. I also need to pay attention to the fact my skin is older than yours Pink lol. So I am looking to keep it in good condition like a middle age woman needs to lol. .

That's awesome, SS. It definitely took a few weeks for me to get to the point in which new blemishes aren't even forming anymore... This was the first time I ever got through PMS and my period without completely breaking out on my chin. Just make sure you are consistent with it-- that was always my problem-- I would buy these 2304230 step kits to stop my breakouts, but then I'd always get lazy with them. This time I stuck to it and found a nice balance where I don't even use the kit in the morning-- I just use the Neutrogena grapefruit acne scrub for my morning shower.

SweetSunshine, you might also want to consult with a dermatologist. I am in my 40s and have been on prophylactic oral antibiotics for about a decade now. They have really helped my acne. Before that, nothing would help me, not topical antibiotic creams, not special skincare routines, nada! The oral antibiotics have really done the trick. My dermatologist explained that it is not only the bacteria-killing property of the antibiotic that helps, but the anti-inflammatory property of the antibiotic. So even if a blemish does occur, the anti-inflammation part of the drug helps keep the blemish from getting angry and red and painful (and scarring). I have hardly gotten any new scars in the last decade due to the antibiotics.

I had to take birth control pills for several months last year and my acne completely cleared up while on them. I was able to stop antibiotics and have clear skin. It was great, but when I went off of the hormones, my acne returned even worse than before and took a while to calm down even with antibiotics. So hormones can be another solution.

Even though parts of my skin are really oily, I do use a moisturizer. I really need it now that I'm older. I use the oil-free moisturizer from Clinique.

No - I have not used her skin care products as I have Roseacea and tend to stick with Eucerin or Cetaphil for that condition..... but my sister has used them and she loves the way her skin feels.

And in case you are wondering...
Yes, the TV Special with the Compact & Brushes (and the loose powder) is all you will need for a beautiful looking face - that's what I use.

The product cost a little up front, but then they last forever and when you need to refill the disc you can do as needed per item, you do not have to purchase the entire compact again.

A web site that I always enjoy going in is www.totalbeauty.com. You can read what others are saying about a product, post your own comments, etc.

Make up is certainly fun and gives me a lift in spirits! So does fragrance!
